For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. Romans 8:5-9
The Bible clearly states that there exists within each of us (as believers) a battle between the flesh (or sinful nature), and the Spirit of God. As Jesus puts it in Matthew 6:24, No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. We must choose daily to crucify the flesh and surrender to the Spirit. Galatians 5:24
In today's society, racism and prejudice are common, poisoning mindsets, even for followers of Christ. However, it is important to remember that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ if we choose to claim God as our Father.
1 John 4:20 states that if anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
Every human being upon the earth is a descendant of Noah and his family. Complex genetic combinations and permutations are responsible for the wealth of nationalities visible today. Yet, it is important to recall our common heritage and our shared relationship to the God we serve.
