Even when it's cloudy or storming the sun is always shining above the clouds, the sun comes out every day whether we see it or not. The same can be said about God. Despite all the bad things that happen to us, God is always there as long as we place our trust in Him. God's control never changes only our perspective changes. We let the clouds blind us from God's blessings that are waiting for us.
What dreams are:
- A dream is an aspiration or goal or aim for the future that God designed for your life
- God equipped you with a purpose
- Dreams should be clear and precise
- Dreams only come to those who work hard for them, not lazy people
- Dreams will come through trials and tribulations
- Dreams don't come to complainers
- Dreams don't come to the selfish
- Dreams are to build God's kingdom not ours
Joseph sold into slavery
Genesis 39 shows us the story of Joseph after he was sold into slavery by his brothers and carried to Egypt. Joseph was one of twelve sons of Jacob (Israel), and the most beloved of all the brothers. His brothers hated him for this and even more when Joseph had a dream that all of them and his mother and father would bow before him.
This was just too much for his brothers who hatched a plan to murder Joseph. At the last minute instead of killing their brother they threw him into a pit and sold him to slavers. These slavers took him to Egypt where they sold him to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.
The Lord was with Joseph and made him successful in Potiphar's house. His master saw that Joseph was blessed and because of this he found favor in his master's sight. Potiphar entrusted everything he owned to Joseph so much so that Potiphar did not even know what he had other than what Joseph fed to him. The Lord blessed Potiphar's house because of Joseph.
Dreamers prosper where ever God sends them
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:1-3
If we walk according to the Word we will always prosper. God is the giver of all gifts not man and we are called to obey Him and not complain. Life isn't fair; some people have more talent, skills, better looks but God is glorified by over achievers working with less in His name. We should always focus in trusting in the Lord; delight in His Word all the time then we will always prosper. Please keep in mind though prospering does not necessarily mean money.
Everyone can see our blessings
Potiphar trusted Joseph with every thing because it was obvious he was blessed. When we are blessed by God everybody can see it. If people don't know us as a Christian then we are not being blessed by God. People will notice the changes in us and we will gain supernatural gifts to answer the trials in our lives like patience, courage and peace. There will be supernatural opportunities presented to us. God will open doors for us that we cannot explain as long as we put our trust in God.
Joseph continued to fight through the clouds in his life because he trusted that God would make his dream come true. Joseph was a slave, yet he was still being blessed by the Lord. One of the Lord's blessings was that Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. Unfortunately Potiphar's wife also noticed this and commanded Joseph to lie with her. Joseph refused and kept his master's faith and his obedience to God. Joseph refused to sin against God telling Potiphar's wife that Potiphar trusted him with everything except for her and he would not lie with her.
Dreamers realize success passes through them not from them
All our power, success, intelligence, charisma, good looks, etc are coming through us not from us because these gifts are from God alone. God could easily take these gifts away from us. Joseph was being accountable to his master and to God; he would not sin against either of them. When we sin we are taking the control of our life away from God.
Potiphar was a eunuch as a sign of his obedience to Pharaoh which made his wife desperate for Joseph. Joseph refused to take control of his life by lying with her instead he placed his trust in God and remained sinless and a faithful steward to his master.
Dreamers are faithful stewards of their blessings
A steward is a manager. God gives us resources such as retirement, houses, and investments, natural talents, influence, connections, imagination, humor and spiritual gifts - all come from God. God has given you an assignment or a dream for His kingdom. He will hold you accountable for His dream for His kingdom and all the blessings He has given us to accomplish the dream. Jesus tells us the story of the master who gives his servants talents (money, resources) before he leaves them. When he comes back he asks them what they did with his resources. Two increased the talents he gave them and one did not. For the servants who increased the talents he said: Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord. Matthew 25:21
To the one who did nothing with the talents given him, his master said: 'You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 25:26-30
God will ask us what we did to maximize the talents, gifts and resources He gives us, are you increasing them to accomplish His dream? A lot of benefits come from being in God's will, but a lot of us only focus on the benefits and not on the stewardship of the gifts He gives us. Today we live in a time of instant gratification and we are not being good stewards with the resources God gives us.
Joseph was being a good steward when he refused his master's wife's advances. She spoke to Joseph every day trying to lure him to her bed. One day she caught him by his clothes and he fled - she falsely accused Joseph of trying to rape her. Potiphar put Joseph in prison and yet the Lord was with Joseph even in the prison, He never left him.
If people or circumstances mistreat you, God will never leave you. Why did God let Joseph get mistreated, so he could teach us - it was God's plan? Do you have enough faith to say you trust God - even when Satan is offering you short cuts, relief from pain or a way out? We have to remember who is gifting us, who called us to the dream - it is all about God. If we stay faithful to God, no matter what is going on around us no matter what is happening to hurt us or our dreams. It is all part of His plan and we should trust in Him and God will unfold His plan for us.
Dreamers thrive even in the toughest of times
The Lord was with Joseph and the keeper of the prison committed to his hand all the prisoners and Joseph had total authority in the prison. Joseph never turned his back on God or His dream. He didn't whine or complain about his circumstances: if he had Satan would have won. That is the way he takes us out of our dreams. Will you quit your dream and settle for the devil's second best? This is what the adversary offers us.
But Joseph is our model on how to continue and trust in God's plan no matter the adversity. Keep the hope that God knows the plan and as long as we trust in Him, He will fulfill it before us. That is the way to keep our dreams going even through tough times. When things happen that you do not understand remember Joseph's example and remember that as long as you keep your trust in God you will be blessed.
