100 Days (Prayer - AWCIPA)
Miles McPherson - July 27, 2008

Message Recap

As many of you know, prayer is a powerful thing indeed. Pastor Miles wanted to remind us that we need to use that power for ourselves, our loved ones, our not so loved ones and especially our country.

In 100 days we will be voting for a new president as well as other positions and laws.

The constitution of this great country is based on God and the Bible. Even our money has printed words, "In God We Trust." God has blessed this country because we have honored Him so often. However, this country is falling short of that honor more and more each day and we need to change that.

Miles also reminded us that prayer is communicating with God. But we have to be careful to communicate with God; not just whine about our worries, problems, and struggles. We need to listen! God gave us two ears and two eyes versus one mouth for a reason.

AWCIPA is a way to pray to God.

Admire God.

O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:9 God wants us to pay our respects and recognize that we owe everything to Him: every breath, every feeling, the food on our plates. We need to be thankful for all that God has given us. You have a lot to be thankful for, first and foremost that we live in a country where we can give thanks to God privately and publicly, unlike so many other places in the world.

Just listen to hear God's instructions for you.

Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage. And he shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14 After we give praise we need to listen before we start to talk about our problems. Just listen to hear God's instructions for you.

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12 East and west by their nature can't be next to each other. So God has blessed us by forgiving our sins, but remember, we have to admit them. We have to recognize daily that we are sinners and that without His grace we wouldn't be anywhere.

Is there anyone among you suffering? Let him pray… James 5:13 Intersession is pleading with God on behalf of someone else, "to urge," and when on behalf of another, "to intercede" or "to come between." We all need help from time to time. Prayer is an important part of that, especially when praying for others, such as the government officials who make decisions for this great nation of ours.

During the petition section, you pray for yourself. However, notice that it is almost the last thing we do. First we praise God and then listen to Him. Next we admit our shortcomings and pray for others. Now we pray for ourselves. Miles pointed out that we do it in this order so that by the time we get to this point, we are more focused and know what help we need, as things shouldn't look so bad in comparison to what has come before this point. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made know to God. Phillipians 4:6 Now we pray for ourselves and let Him know that we need help.

Again, we praise God. We need to praise Him, not just for what he has done in our lives, but for the great miracles he will be doing in our lives day by day.
