The Invisible Man - Part 1, The Invisible Man is Qualified
Miles McPherson - March 8, 2009

Message Recap

Today we begin a new series on the Holy Spirit. Though many of us don't recognize His influence, the Holy Spirit is as powerful and involved in our lives as Jesus and the Father, for They are all One.

The persons of the Trinity are parts of a whole, the same, yet different (Genesis 1:26-27, Isaiah 6:8, Galatians 4:6, Matthew 28:19-20). They exist outside of our realm, so the rules of nature do not apply to Them, but in order to better understand their roles, we can look at the earthly example of the people involved in constructing the Rock Church. When the Rock began construction on its new building, there was a project manager who created the idea, the mediator who established the contract for the project to be completed, and helpers who did the work.

1. The Father

As the Almighty One, He establishes the plan of salvation. In the first three chapters of Genesis, God creates the universe and humanity falls from grace. The rest of the Bible is God's plan for us to reestablish the original God-human bond that was lost. God gave us the chance for salvation and has an ultimate plan for us.

2. The Son

As the Mediator, He executes the plan's contract in blood. In the Old Testament, each time forgiveness is sought from God, an offering must be made, usually a ram, bull or some other animal. In the New Testament, God sends His only Son as a final sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins, once and for all.

3. The Holy Spirit

As the Helper, He implements the plan, sealing it with His presence. The Holy Spirit is a distinct person (not a human, but a being) and is addressed as such in the Bible. The Holy Spirit works through us and in us.

4. All three (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) are completely God.

Each person of the Trinity appears in Scripture as a distinct being, fully representing God.

Colossians 3:17 says, And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

In John 10:30, Jesus says, "I and My Father are one."

In Acts 5:3, Peter says, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?"

5. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit, the Invisible Man, to us.

In John 16:7, Jesus says to his disciples, "… It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you." Jesus tells his followers that He must go in order to send us the Helper or Holy Spirit to dwell in us.

6. As God, the invisible man is omniscient, all knowing.

The Holy Spirit knows everything - not just facts and figures, but our feelings, our thoughts, our actions, our history, everything.

The Holy Spirit knows everything - not just facts and figures, but our feelings, our thoughts, our actions, our history, everything.

7. As God, the Invisible Man is omnipresent, with everyone at one time.

Psalm 139:7-10 shows us that God is everywhere at all times. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.

8. As God, the Invisible man is omnipotent, all-powerful.

Genesis 1:2 shows us this because He created everything in the universe and existed even before the universe began.

9. As God, the Invisible man is eternal.

The Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit exist outside of time, so They are eternal and infinite. In His own image, God gave you an eternal soul as well, and this soul H desires to save and bless because He loves you.
