The Invisible Man - Part 5, The Invisible Man Provides God Access
Miles McPherson - April 19, 2009

Message Recap

For the past few weeks Miles has been teaching about the Holy Spirit, the Invisible Man, whom Jesus sent to help us with our lives and our part in His plan. The Holy Spirit is one part of the Trinity, so we need to understand Him and His purpose.

God has a grand plan and He is the architect. Imagine that God plans to build a building. He lays out the blue prints for his beautiful idea, but blueprints are only the beginning. Once the plan is established, a contract must be delivered to accomplish the plan. In the spiritual plan to save us from sin, Jesus executed God's contract with His own blood.

Now that the contract has been executed, the plan itself must be carried out. For this purpose, God sends us the Holy Spirit - the Invisible Man.

1. Access to God Himself.

Ephesians 2:17-18 says this about Jesus, And He came and preached peace to you who were far off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Jesus died for our sins, but left the Holy Spirit here so that we could be in communication with God as Romans 5:5 shows: …because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

2. Access to God's power.

Ephesians 3:16 says, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Sprit in the inner man. The strength in this passage is not a physical one, but a strength of spirit or character.

As we know, doing the right thing is hardly popular. Many times we need strength and help to do the right things, to make tough decisions, and to be godly men and women. The Holy Spirit is with us to provide that help.

Many times we need strength and help to do the right things, to make tough decisions, and to be godly men and women. The Holy Spirit is with us to provide that help.

3. Access to God's insight and spiritual truth.

The walls of Jericho came down after the Jews walked around the walls for seven days. God parted the waters of the Red Sea just as the Jews were trapped in their exodus from Egypt. Joseph was sold into slavery, but through a chain of events, he became the second most powerful man in Egypt and saved his family.

None of this makes sense to us, but these stories (as well as countless others) are in the Bible as a testimony to God's powerful intervention. Even more than this, we can attest to the powerful interventions the Holy Spirit has made in our own lives. For example, he had a funny feeling about the girl he was dating, so broke it off and later found the perfect wife. She asked her husband not to invest with a certain group; reluctantly, he did not invest and as a result, avoided jail time.

Access into the omnipotent would obviously help us. The Holy Spirit tells us things to protect us and look out for us because He sees all.

4. Access to freedom to say "Jesus is Lord."

How do we know when we are in the presence of the Holy Spirit? We know because the Spirit simply says, "Jesus is Lord." God would not do things to confuse us - that is the work of someone else. Anyone or anything that does not say, "Jesus is Lord," is not of God.

5. Secures our eternal access to God.

Do you ever find yourself questioning your salvation? You know you were saved once, but somehow doubt now that you still are? Christ Himself refers to His relationship with the church as a marriage. If a couple got married, would it make sense for one of them to say, "How many times could I cheat on you before we break up?" In a way, this is what we are asking Jesus if we question our salvation.

The walk of a Christian is difficult, but thanks to the Holy Spirit, we will always have eternal access to God. However, that doesn't mean we can be lazy. God is expecting all of us to do great things that He has planned for us. The Holy Spirit will give us the strength and insight we need to do these things to honor Him, but it is still up to us to do them.
