Message Recap

"I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!" John 15:11

Did you know that God wants you to have joy in your life? He wants you to have so much joy that it overflows! But not everyone wants you to have joy; there is opposition to God's desire for you.

The War

There is a spiritual war going on in this world, whether you believe it or not. The Bible is very clear about this.

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10-12

There is a winner and a loser in the spiritual war. The good news is that we already know the outcome - Jesus Christ died on the cross and defeated the enemy. He has the victory, now and always.

The Battle

Yes, the war is won in Jesus. But you need to know that there is also a moment-to-moment battle for your mind and heart. The devil and his demons have a scheme to bring you down; they do not want you to be useful for God's kingdom.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

The Dark Team

If you compete against someone and you want to win, you need to know his strengths and weaknesses. One of the devil's best and strongest strategies against us is his lies. He stands on the sidelines and whispers them to you.

What does he lie about? He knows all your buttons - all your sensitive spots, vulnerabilities, disappointments, fears, and fleshly desires

What does he lie about? He knows all your buttons - all your sensitive spots, vulnerabilities, disappointments, fears, and fleshly desires - and he feeds them with all his might, hoping that he can divide you from the light and from other believers.

What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don't they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don't have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can't get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them.

James 4:1

He also uses our anger against us. When we harbor anger in our hearts, we give Satan an open door. He feeds our anger, breeding unforgiveness, bitterness, and pain. For this reason, we are given this warning in Ephesians 4:26-27, And "don't sin by letting anger control you." Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

Our Defense

The devil's lies may be influential, but he has no real power over the believer. Satan's schemes come against you, but you don't have to fall prey to them because believers have victory in Christ.

There will come a time when Satan's true weakness will be exposed. We'll look at him and say, "It was you? That's it? You're the one that seemed so powerful?" Isaiah 14:15-17

Truth is the key defense we have against his lies. Get together with other trusted believers and let the lies out. Tell someone your sins and struggles. Do you feel like you've let God down? That's a lie - and once it's exposed as untruth, it has no power over you.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16

Just as the devil searches for people to devour, God is searching for people through whom He can show His amazing strength and power.

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. 2 Chronicles 16:9

You won't get truth everywhere, but you'll get it from God. Ask the Holy Spirit to expose the lies you believe and to cleanse your own heart. Claim the promises God has for you. Satan has no power over you, so don't let him rob you of the joy that God wants to give you.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
