The Story

Message Recap

We have been studying how to share our testimonies in three parts:
The part before Christ (I was…)
The part when you met Christ (Then Jesus…)
The part after you met Christ (Since then…)
Simply put, our testimonies should elaborate on these main points: “I was lost. I found Jesus and gave my life to Him. Since then I’ve been walking with Him and He is working on me.”

The testimony of Jesus was in three parts as well.

1. Jesus was sent to preach the kingdom of God. Luke 4:4

Jesus came to reveal and declare that there is another kingdom and show us that we have an opportunity to live in that kingdom or be separated from it.

2. Jesus was crucified to pay for the sins of man. Mark 10:45

He came as a servant to give his life as a ransom. At the cross He paid the price for our sin, was beaten with leather straps, had thorns pressed into His head, was betrayed and denied; He had the crowds who were once for Him, turn against Him. He went through unimaginable pain as He hung for six hours and finally died.

We are all going to die, so Jesus’ death on the cross was most significant because of what happened next.

We are all going to die, so Jesus’ death on the cross was most significant because of what happened next.

Jesus said many times that He would be killed and would rise again on the third day after His death. While Pilate had placed Roman guards at the tomb to be sure no one could steal the body and claim Jesus’ resurrection, the stone was supernaturally rolled away. If God wants to do something, no one can stop it! So if God is for you, whom should you fear?

After Jesus’ resurrection, He had real-life, in-the-flesh encounters with people for 40 days before ascending into heaven. During one of these encounters, Jesus appeared to His disciples, who, terrified at the sight of Him, believed that He was an apparition or spirit. But Jesus showed them His wounds, saying,

“Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?  Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.” Luke 24:38b-39

In this impactful moment, Jesus gives His disciples a significant message that will carry them forward.

3. Since then Jesus rose and commands us to:

A. Believe, don’t doubt - Luke 24:38-39
Jesus really is alive.  His body was never found because it ascended into heaven!

B. Share and don’t be silent - Luke 24:46-47
Tell people what happened! Jesus asks us to share His story (and our encounters with Him) with others.

C. Wait for the Holy Spirit’s power - Luke 24:49
Know that when you share your testimony, you are not meant to pressure anyone into making a decision to follow Christ. You are simply asked to tell them your own story and what Jesus has done. The Holy Spirit is the one who moves in people’s hearts and makes change.

If someone with whom you share your story wants to follow Jesus, pray the Gospel A-B-C’s with them. This prayer is not magical, it’s just a guide on how to say yes to God.

Gospel A-B-C’s

Father, I Admit that I am a sinner and that my sin has brought death and destruction into my life, my relationships with people, and my relationship with God. (Romans 3:23, 6:23)

I Believe that Jesus died for my sins and that His death paid the penalty for my sins. (Romans 5:8)

I Confess or agree that Jesus is Lord, that He died and rose from the dead, and is able to forgive me of my sins. (Romans 10:9-10)

Jesus, I trust that You love me and can hear my prayer. By faith, I ask You to please forgive me and fill me with the Holy Spirit. I surrender my life to You. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you understood that prayer and prayed to accept Jesus’ invitation into a relationship, text “SAVED” to 59769.

This Message

In this message, Pastor Miles speaks about how Jesus rose from the dead so we could spend eternity with Him; he also encourages us to share our personal salvation story with friends and present to them an opportunity to accept Jesus as their savior.
