The Basics
Miles McPherson - April 12, 2015

Message Recap

As we celebrate the Rock’s 15 anniversary, today we are revisiting what our church is all about and remembering the movement that God started 15 years ago.

The Mission of the Rock Church is: Save, Equip, Send

A mission of an organization describes its business. Just as McDonald’s is in the food business, the church is in the disciple-making business. Going to church on Sunday, mission trips, prayer groups, life groups, etc. are all part of how we accomplish our mission to save, equip, and send.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”Matthew 28:19-20

By believing in Jesus as Messiah, you receive forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life.

At some point in a person’s journey with Christ, he/she makes a decision to believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior. By believing in Jesus as Messiah, you receive forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life.

After salvation, then the focus of a disciple’s life is to be equipped and transformed into the image of Christ. For the rest of our lives, we are called to engage in the process of learning and growing. The Rock has 760 life groups all over San Diego; surely there is one just right for you!   If you have not joined a group yet, we suggest starting in the LIFE Growth track, which is a 4-week focus on the basics, financial stewardship, evangelism, and ministry.

As we continue to grow and learn, we are also called to action, to do something and help someone else. Jesus did not save you for your sake alone, but rather to bring hope to others as hope was brought to you. This is an unending earthly mission, as there will always be people around us who need the hope of Christ.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

So as you connect with the Rock today, where are you in the process of the Rock’s mission? Have you made a decision to follow Jesus? Are you ready to learn more about Him and His Word so that you can grow and step into the process of transformation? Are you accepting the call to do something for Him?

We can’t simply create our own version of Christianity. We need to walk by faith, trusting Him and listening to him, and moving to bring hope to others as He guides us. Walking by faith can be scary, but the God of the Universe is on our side!

The are 3 million of people in San Diego who need Christ, so we are going to share with them and try to reach them with pervasive hope.

Rock Church Vision: Global Pervasive Hope

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Four main strategies:

1. Sunday
2. LIFE Growth Track
3. LIFE Groups
4. Serve on a Ministry team
