Who Are You? - Part 2, In Christ
Miles McPherson - December 3, 2017

Message Recap

MAY I SPEAK LIFE OVER YOU?

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2

DECLARATION :

Who you are in Christ has given you access to God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness throughout your life.

One of the most frequently asked questions is what happens when you die. Well, if you’re a non-Christian it’s different than a Christian. If you don’t believe in Christ you go to a place where you will never see God again and the Bible calls that hell. If you’re a Christian, it means which death? Death where you take your last breath or is it the death that happens when you got saved. When you get saved, you are dead to your sin but alive to Christ.

We can fight the Devil by telling him three things: “I am”, “I have” and “I will”.

Last week we started a new series called Who Are You and we learned that the number one battle is the Devil fighting you in your head and trying to tell you who you are NOT. But we can fight him by telling him three things: “I am”, “I have” and “I will”.

When someone asks you who you are, it’s all based on being a Kingdom Warrior. We are made in the image of God. All the names we have, are based on the identity of God. We are eternal, we are people of redemption.

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ is God. Colossians 3:1-3

1. IDENTITY: I AM resurrected in Christ.

2. AUTHORITY: I HAVE direct access to the throne of God.

3. ACTIVITY: I WILL develop the mind of Christ.

If I am resurrected in Christ, and I have direct access to the throne of God, I need to think about that. Have you ever been talking to someone, but you can tell their mind is somewhere else? If there is anything you get out of this series, I want you to get your mind daydreaming about the things of God.

The Devil can mess with our minds about something that happened years and years ago. Pastor Miles wants to speak hope over our lives and relief over our lives that we would cast our cares on the Lord. The Devil is going to get us in our mind, and how we process all that information is important. We need to focus on the things of Christ.

Finally my brethren whatever things are true, whatever things are noble whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is anything virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

God loves me. God will never forsake me. God has a plan for my life. I am a new creature. Holy Spirit fill me. Encourage me. I acknowledge your presence. If you are meditating on what’s on the news, on gossip, on your problems, the fruit of those thoughts will bring death. Who you are is establish, now you need to start believing it and understanding it.

The weapon of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready 2 Corinthians 10:4-6

When a thought comes to your mind saying you’re gonna fail, say no, I already have victory. When a thought comes that says your doomed, you say no, if God is for me who can be against me? Take your thoughts captive to the truth of Christ.

Pastor Miles worked for an engineer for a few summers in high school. He went to Maine with a few older men and they had to survey 12 miles of the Appalachian Trail. We slept in a tent in the summer, had bug bites all over, and we had to go out and survey to mark locations and elevations. We did this for 3 weeks. After we surveyed the 12 miles, we had to connect it to the beginning of the trail, which was at the beginning of the mountain 5000 ft up. So we took a helicopter to the top, jumped out into the snow, camped out and then hiked to the top where there were bare rocks. There were orange tarps we used to mark the positions and when we were at the top of the mountain we could see the whole valley. At the top, there was a metal seal stamped into the rock saying it was the beginning of the trail and from the top, you could see the whole valley. The perspective was so different. Different climate, different view.

In Colossians, it says if then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above where Christ is sitting at the right hand of the father. How many of you have drama? There’s no drama up with Christ. He sits at the right hand of the father and He intercedes for us. He is constantly praying for us. Don’t think about those things on the ground. They don’t determine anything up “there” with Christ. We need to take all the thoughts, situations, and everything that comes to us and submit that to Christ. Having his perspective will change ours.

After these things I looked and behold a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me saying “Come up here and I will show things which must take place after this.”
Immediately I was in the Spirit and behold a throne set in heaven and one sat on the throne. And he who sat there was like jasper and sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.
Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones, I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
Before the throne, there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:

“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”

Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:

“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, and by your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4 1-11

You are resurrected in Christ. The Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and the penalty is death. If you die without Christ, your body will die and you will go somewhere where God is not. Because God loves you so much, He will grant your wish to be without Him. But if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. Christ lives in you. It is now my choice to submit and surrender to that power.

But God who is rich in mercy because of his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Chris (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:5

You have to believe that you are seated with Christ. By faith, you access our Heavenly Father. Ask Him for help, ask Him for wisdom. A Christian's mistake is that they sit on the throne and say their prayer and then leave. Don’t leave the throne! Stay there!

Who Are You?

This 5-part series examines the identity God has given us and teaches us how to walk confidently in that calling. In Part 2, Pastor Miles explains that who we are in Christ has given us access to God's grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
