Welcome from Pastor John...

Thank you so much for expressing interest in a small group here at the Rock Church. Single, married, men, women, it doesn’t matter what you are looking for, my goal is to make sure you are connected to one of the hundreds of groups we offer in San Diego.

With over eight years of personal small group experience, I understand the difficulty of getting connected to a group for the first time. When I experienced this for the first time I was reminded of the apostle Paul’s view of community in the book of Philippians, “be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.”

This showed me that a small group should not be something to be feared but a place to celebrate Jesus with other believers.

It soon became exciting for me, and my life was never the same.

This is my commitment to you; that joining a small group will allow you to build solid biblical community, grow in the Lord, and develop a desire to serve your community as a response. If you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me at .

About Small Groups

Most churches have small groups to make “the large church seem small.” There is no doubt that this is true but is that a good enough reason to join a small group? We believe there are far better reasons to join.

Did you know that God created you for community? He created you for community with Himself, but He also created you for community with other believers. This is what we are all about!

Small groups exist for...

  • Prayer
  • Fellowship
  • Study
  • Building relationships as a direct reflection of what Jesus did on the cross for us

The apostle Paul states that when we were saved we were brought into the household of God with the other saints and members of the Church. (Eph. 2:19) This is a huge way to understand that once grafted into the family of God we are commissioned to live this faith with other believers. To us, this is a more compelling reason to be part of a small group.

We also desire Small Groups to be a vehicle for discipleship. Discipleship is growing into a deeper love and obedience in Jesus. Whether a group is going through the Bible, a book study, DVD study, or many other great resources, the goal is growth for the believer.
