Can't Stop the Rock... Growth by Design

by Stefani Royer | June 9, 2005

By now you've probably noticed the steadily growing number of people coming to our church. Since the move from SDSU, the Rock Church has grown from approximately 5000 to 6800 attendees. That is a growth of 36 percent within a few short months!

Due to the influx of more San Diegans hearing and learning of Jesus, there has been a desperate need for us to accommodate this fast-growing interest in our community. Thus, the Rock Church Saturday night 5:30 PM service was born in order to address this need.

Deciding Factors

Attendance exceeded 12,000 people for the Rock's Good Friday and Easter services

If you've been coming to the Rock for any time at all, the first thing you notice is the parking situation. Although we have a quality parking staff to aid with the flow of vehicles, it still requires patience entering and leaving the parking area.

Recently, the Rock acquired a new parking facility which allows for an additional 100 cars. This is located at 8929 Aero Drive, a walking distance equal to that at SDSU.

Additionally, there are services where seating capacity has reached its maximum and people are either standing or sitting on the floor for the entire service. The busiest service times are 9:45 AM, 11:30 AM, and 7:15 PM, where the average attendance is 1200-1300 people.

Let's Bring in More People

Although the Rock Church has grown exponentially in a short period of time, there are more people to save, equip and send out as soul-winners for Jesus Christ. Remember, we need to reach as many people as possible and bring them to the loving grace of our Lord.

Jesus said, Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you Matthew 28:19-20

In other words, when we respond faithfully to what the Lord calls us to do-that is, share with others the Good News we ourselves are blessed to have had our eyes opened to-the Rock Church will definitely continue to grow!

Saturday NightIn the House!

The first Saturday Evening Service was April 2, 2005, with an attendance of approximately 500. The second Saturday had 70% returning attendees from the previous week.

What does this mean to you?

There is a service available to you and your family that has virtually no parking issues and you are guaranteed a seat! We are all in our own personal routines, programmed to do certain things on certain days. Here is a refreshing opportunity to break out of the mold and enjoy an evening of great worship, phenomenal Bible teaching, and fellowship with other believers.

The Rockpile Bookstore is now open on Saturday from 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM, allowing for a yummy coffee and a good peruse of the offered selection of Christian books and gifts. Additionally, the Rock is now offering Children's Ministry for infants through Pre-Kindergarten at Saturday night services.

What Some Saturday Night Attendees Had to Say

More important than our attendance numbers, over 250 people accepted Christ as their Savior during the Easter weekend

"I prefer Saturday night as it seems to be a more relaxed environment and allows Pastor Miles to speak longer."

"Saturday is my last day of work so I come here right afterward and end my week on a high note."

"I get to sleep in on Sunday!"

"I am able to free up a seat for someone who may really need to come to church on Sunday."

"My husband and I really enjoy it, we have dessert afterward and make it a great date night!"

You Can Make a Difference

We are faced daily with opportunities to allow the love of Jesus to make an impact on another individual. Here at the Rock, we are all presented with a situation that would permit more San Diegans to hear the Word of God through Pastor Miles.

If you are able to, please consider attending the Rock Saturday Service. There is plenty of room, it will make for a great night of Bible teaching, and will deliver an excellent evening out with your friends and family. If Saturday night simply does not work with your schedule, think about the 8:00 AM Sunday Service. Yes, it is early, yet it will allow more room for new people at the services continually reaching maximum seating capacity.

Finally, if early Sunday is not possible, consider utilizing the new parking area to free up closer spaces for new visitors. Again, the walk is no farther than it was at SDSU, and everyone could use a little extra exercise.

The goal of the Rock is to bring all of San Diego and beyond to their knees for Jesus. As a church, let's work together to do everything we can to make that happen-even the seemingly little things.

And remember, as we continue to save, equip and send out soul-winners for Christ, the Rock Church will continue grow!
