Commitment to Align with the Beliefs, Ethics, Values and Mission of Rock Church

For further information on Rock Church, please review our Rock Church Statement of Faith

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and being in agreement with the values and ideas presented in the LIFE Class, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the Rock Church. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to others to do the following:
I COMMIT TO KNOWING GOD

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.(John 3:16 NKJV)

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3 NKJV)

I COMMIT TO GROWING IN COMMUNITY:

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25 NKJV)

I COMMIT TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

“And He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” (2 Corinthians 5:15 NKJV)

I COMMIT TO UPHOLD THE FOLLOWING FUNDAMENTALS OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH ACCORDING TO THE ROCK CHURCH STATEMENT OF FAITH AND BYLAWS, WHICH INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• The Bible: We believe that the Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and completely truthful in all it affirms. It bears witness to Jesus Christ, the Living Word, is infallible in its purposes, and is the primary and final authority in the rule of faith and practice.

• God: We believe in one God, Creator of all things, who has revealed Himself in three Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are one in eternity, deity, and purpose; everlasting, of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness.

• Jesus Christ: We believe that in Christ dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, that He was very God and very Man, and that He is our Savior, the one perfect mediator between God and humanity. We acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord over all things in heaven and on earth, and under the earth.

• The Holy Spirit: We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is being manifested in the Church through the fruit of the Spirit. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are operative in the Church today in order for the Church to experience the fullness of God and are imparted by the Holy Spirit. The evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit is a person’s obedient response to the Word of God, a Christ-like life of holiness, and manifesting the fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

• Christ’s Resurrection and Immanent Return: We believe in Jesus Christ’s sinless life, miracles, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection and His ascension into Heaven. He will return in power and glory to judge all people. We anticipate His return at which time there will be a new heaven and a new earth, a resurrection of those who are lost to eternal death and those who are saved to eternal life, and the enemies of Christ will be subdued and the reign of God will be established.

• Justification: We believe that repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ results in justification whereby the believer, through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ, is accounted as righteous and made free from the guilt and the penalty of their sins.

• Marriage & Family: We believe that marriage is an institution of God described singularly as the lifelong and exclusive union of one man and one woman in a faithful relationship that the Scriptures call “one flesh.” This covenant signifies to us the mystery of the union between Christ and his Church. Marriage is the only proper setting for sexual intimacy, and is the foundation of the family, the basic structure of human society.

As a Rock Church Member, we want to encourage you to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ and to reflect His life and character as He transforms you. A Rock Church ministry leader will be coming alongside you to assist your ongoing growth in the Lord. When a person surrenders their life to Jesus Christ, God promises to transform us into the likeness of Him. Be encouraged to let the Holy Spirit do a work in your life to grow your witness in reflecting Jesus to others as you serve God at Rock Church.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2 NKJV)

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV)

I COMMIT TO GROWING IN AND MODELING THE CORE VALUES OF ROCK CHURCH, WHICH ARE:

  • Jesus is our Message
  • Prayer is our Priority
  • Worship is our Posture
  • Discipleship is our Calling
  • People are our Focus
  • Do Something is our Response
  • Generosity is our Privilege
  • Love is our Motivation

As Christians, the way we present ourselves to others is of vital importance to the way others perceive Jesus Christ. Be encouraged to let the Holy Spirit do a work in your life to grow your witness in reflecting Jesus to others as you serve God at Rock Church.

SPIRIT-FILLED LIFESTYLE “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV)

STEWARDSHIP “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:9- 10 NKJV)

“Wealth from gambling quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows.” (Proverbs 13:11 TLB)

INTEGRITY “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NKJV)

EDIFYING SPEECH “but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head— Christ — from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” (Ephesians 4:15-16 NKJV)

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:29-32 NIV)
Since people are created in the image of God, we believe and teach at Rock Church that all people should be treated with honor, dignity, respect, and love as exemplifies God’s heart for the world and the example of Jesus Christ. Therefore, every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing attitudes or behaviors directed at any person are not consistent with our position and faith. People who live outside of the bounds of the Biblical worldview are welcomed to attend Rock Church to learn of God’s design and purpose for their lives. All attendees at Rock Church are encouraged to grow in their Christian faith as they embark on their journey to know God, grow in community, and make a difference. People whose lifestyles and beliefs are not in alignment with Rock Church must still be respectful of the church’s stance and the effort to fulfill its mission in a manner consistent with our identity, without seeking to undermine the Rock Church’s beliefs and policies. As such, there may be limits as to an attendee’s participation in ministry at Rock Church as part of their discipleship plan. Rock Church seeks to serve each church member on an individual basis to determine their next-steps in relation to their personal growth plan for life.

***Rock Church does not provide Members with voting rights on ministry decisions, special privileges to meet at will with Pastor Miles McPherson or the Executive Team, the right to view the Rock Church financial records or the absolute right for ministry involvement without appropriate qualification.*

Within these Affirmations, I am committing to be an active and growing member of the community of Rock Church, and to align myself with the beliefs, ethics, values and mission of Rock Church.
