If you saw the service on March 10th, you already had the opportunity to meet, former gang member, Larry Blackman. As we were speaking to various pastors/leaders at the Rock a couple months ago, in search of the "perfect fit" for a home makeover, Larry was brought to our attention.
Larry has an amazing story of a life, transformed by God from that of a criminally acclaimed gang-member and drug dealer to a soft-hearted, God-fearing leader for those who are currently walking down the path he's already traveled. Larry currently runs two sober living homes for people just released from prison and is committed to being a light in his community. For this reason, we could not think of a better recipient of a home makeover, than someone like him.
The home that we will be making over was the site for numerous drive-by shootings, for which the exterior siding still displays bullet holes as a testimony. Built in 1948, and purchased by his father, Larry Sr. in 1963, this home has been in the Blackman family for 50 years and 3 generations. Larry Sr. still lives there with his other brother and grandchildren, and hopes that with our help, this home will be a place that his family can gather in and grow for years to come, leaving behind the associations it once had with a life of violence and drugs.
