Laguna Meadow Hike

Join the Rock Church Hiking Ministry Community as we take on the Big Laguna Meadow in the Laguna Mountain Recreation Area. We will meet at the Sunset Trailhead on Sunrise Hwy. at 8:30 a.m.

A National Forest Adventure Pass is needed to park on Sunrise Hwy. $5 Day passes are available at the vending machine by the porta-potties.

We'll hike on the Big Laguna Trail, where we will walk along the meadow and pass the Big and Little Laguna Lakes. We'll stop at the Laguna Campground for a food break and a time of worship

This is a moderately strenuous hike, with hills. There is some elevation gain and we will be hiking above 5,500 feet. The altitude will affect your breathing. Please self-evaluate your fitness and hiking levels before attempting this hike. You are free to hike at your own pace. However, if you fall behind the group, it is your responsibility to safely complete the hike.

You must sign the Rock Church waiver form to participate in this hike.

What to Expect 

• Difficulty: Moderately strenuous, elevation around 5,500 feet.
• Highlights: Big and Little Laguna Lakes, Water-of-the-Woods, great views
• Distance: 6.5 miles (out and back)
• Elevation Gain: 387 feet
• Hiking Time: approximately 3 hours
• Travel Time: 40 minutes from Rock Church El Cajon to Trailhead
• Dogs (on leash) permitted
• Weather: Hike will be cancelled in case of extreme weather.
• Bathrooms: Porta-potties are available at the trailhead and at Little Laguna Lake

What to bring

• Good running or hiking shoes, trail is rocky in places
• Comfortable clothing, bring layers as temperatures fluctuate
• Hat or visor
• Hiking Poles (optional)
• Electrolytes
• Water (at least 1 liter recommended)
• Snacks
