We're beginning our summer sunset series of hikes with a 3.65-mile adventure to Annie's Canyon at the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve. It's a great time of fellowship, hiking and enjoying the beauty of God's creation! Afterwards, we'll go out for tacos!
This moderate hike will take us to Annie's Canyon, a super cool slot canyon.
Re-opened a few years ago, it's a hike unlike any in San Diego County.
Meet at 4:15 p.m at the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center. Park across the street at the
San Elijo Water Campus, 2695 Manchester Ave, Cardiff 92007.
The adventure begins at 4:30 p.m., so please arrive on time.
We'll start down the Pole Trail to the south end of the lagoon, meet up with the Rios Trail, which will take us to Annie's Canyon. We'll continue up the North Coast Trail, cross the lagoon over the footbridge under I-5, and walk along Manchester Ave. back to the Nature Center.
Please self-evaluate your hiking and fitness levels before attempting this hike. You may hike at your own pace, if you fall behind, it is your responsibility to finish the hike.
The slot canyon is narrow, slippery and may be uncomfortable to those who don't like tight spaces. The canyon walls are like coarse sandpaper. You may want to wear long sleeves and have gloves for this part of the hike. If you are not comfortable going through the slot canyon, there is an alternate route that takes you to the viewpoint where the canyon trail exits.
You must sign the Rock Church waiver form to participate in this hike.
