Our 2026 Summer series starts with a Flag Day hike to Cowles Mountain, the highest point in the City of San Diego at 1,591 feet. It'll be a fun time of hiking, fellowship and worship while enjoying the beauty of God's creation!

We will meet at the Barker Way Trailhead and head up the backside of Cowles Mountain, At the summit, we'll have worship and a time of fellowship, before returning down the Barker Service Road.

This journey will be 3-miles, and is considered a difficult hike.

DO NOT GO TO THE GOLFCREST DR. TRAILHEAD! YOU WILL MISS THE HIKE!

THE TRAILHEAD IS LOCATED AT 6941 BARKER WAY, SAN DIEGO, CA 92119

Please self-evaluate your hiking and fitness levels before attempting this journey. You are welcome to hike at your pace. However, if you fall behind, it will be your responsibility to finish the hike.

You must sign the Rock Church waiver form to participate on this hike. Forms will be available at the event.

What to Expect

  •  Difficulty: Difficult 
  •  Highlight: Beautiful 360-degree views of downtown and San Diego County
  •  Distance: 3 miles (round trip)
  •  Elevation Gain: 853 feet
  •  Hiking Time: approximately 2.5 hours
  •  Dogs: Permitted (on leash) 
  •  Weather: Hike may be cancelled for extreme weather
  •  Restrooms: Porta potty at Barker Trailhead

What to bring?

  • Good running or hiking shoes
  • Comfortable clothing, bring layers as the temperature will change
  • Hat or visor
  • Sunscreen
  • Hiking Poles (optional)
  • Water (at least 1 liter recommended)
  • Snacks and electrolytes
