Big Question, Quotes, and Characters
What is your one BIG question from this episode? (What captured your imagination most, and what would you ask God about the events portrayed?)
What quote from this episode was the most meaningful/impactful to you? Why?
Which characters stood out to you most? Which were most interesting? Most moving?
Episode Questions
1. How did the loss of Ramah impact everyone? Were you surprised by the reaction of her father? (Please be sensitive to those in your discussion group who might have experienced recent loss)
2. “I trust in the God who walks on water.” Gaius’ faith is a big plot point of this episode. He believes in the power of God so strongly, more than several of the disciples in that moment. We see that even on his way home, as he buys celebratory things before he has seen the miracle with his own eyes. What did you think of that?
3. I loved the image of Jesus teaching a crowd that included people from so many various walks of life. Especially alongside the images from the next episode’s angst and anger from different people of the same groups. Both citizens, Roman soldiers, gentiles, people of Jewish faith, and religious leaders were all engaged with the teaching of Jesus and angered by it. How do we include or exclude people in our faith practices?
4. Peter said, "I've resented His miracles for others." How do you keep from becoming resentful toward God when He performs a miracle in someone else's life but not yours?
5. Jesus was the ransom. Who were the hostages?
Self-Check
When you've experienced overwhelming loss, did it cause you to be more desperate for closeness with Jesus? How can remembering times like this in your life help you today?
How do you overcome feeling unworthy of God's love?
Continuing the Conversation
Is there someone you know that feels unworthy of God's love? How could you speak with them to help them understand the truth about God and His love for everyone He created?
