About

Come see a historic location

Calcite Mine is a difficult trail based on one short rocky climb. Most of the trail is moderate. Conditions can change quickly after it rains, so we may divert this trip to an easier trail in Jullian if we get too much rain or snow. An aggressive stock SUV can handle this trail, skid plates are recommended.

We will stop at the XL-Co gas station in Borrego Springs to gas up (see map link below). Those who want to caravan up in a group can meet at the CVS on E. Valley Parkway in Escondido at 7:45am.

We will reach the XL-Co at about 9:30am. If you plan to meet us at the XL-Co please call me or email me so we don't miss you. We will have a large banner flying so you can find us.

We will also have a meeting at trails end (where we can explore the mines) and try and have lunch after the trip. Please RSVP so I can email you the forms needed to be filled out for new participants and the vehicle self inspection form. Always RSVP, please don't just show up, you may get left behind! See you there!

There will be off camber and narrow sections of this trail, deep ruts and moderate sized rocks at some sections. PLEASE, do not remove any Calcite or rocks from the trail it is prohibited.
