Screenwriting: The Basics and Beyond

About

Have you ever wanted to learn how to write a screenplay? Wondered where to begin, how to get started? Or do you have a killer story just waiting to be filmed, but need to get it down on paper?

A good screenplay is based on a solid foundation of structure which serves as the road map to telling your story. The Rock Church Fellowship of Christian Writers for Screen and Stage will be holding an interactive workshop on May 30 from 9 AM to 12 noon in Room 355.

Space is limited to the first 15 people to sign up. Make a reservation at rwbmedia@gmail.com.

"By the end of the session people should be able to start work on a full length screenplay and know where to go to continue their study of the form."

Topics to be covered will be:

  • Generating story ideas.
  • Basic structure of the screenplay.
  • The hero's journey from a Christian viewpoint.
Plenty of time will be scheduled to develop your own story idea and workshop it with other attendees. The workshop will be lead by screenwriter Richard Bagdazian, leader of the Fellowship of Christian Writers for Screen and Stage (an arm of the Rock Church Writers Ministry), and former president of the San Diego County Screenwriters Association.

"The basis of the workshop will be to introduce the importance of structure in crafting a screenplay and will draw a lot from the concept of 'The Hero's Journey,' " said Richard. "By the end of the session people should be able to start work on a full length screenplay and know where to go to continue their study of the form."
