Easter - Unveiled Love
Miles McPherson - April 16, 2006

Message Recap

This Easter Sunday, Pastor Miles made a bold statement: When someone tells you that you cannot do something, it should encourage you even more to complete it.

When the Rock Church was one year old, the leaders were questioned as to whether they would be financially able to obtain and build on their permanent site at Liberty Station. Now six years later, imagine the testimony that has been displayed to all those involved in the transaction!

A Criticized Ministry

The ministry of Jesus was surrounded by doubt and disbelief. Many people questioned Jesus and the validity of His word. At the time of Jesus' trial and crucifixion, He was questioned at the time of His death:

  1. Is Jesus really the Christ?
  2. Can He Prophesy?
  3. Is He the King of the Jews?
  4. How can He save the world when He cannot save Himself?

Pastor Miles emphasized that no matter what they did to Jesus, He would not be deterred from His mission. He came to pay the penalty for sin and that would require the shedding of His blood. Jesus was on a mission to be a slaughtered lamb one time for all people to have their sins forgiven. He came to die to be your Savior, your Lord and your God.

Today, there are movies, television series, and books all trying to defy the absolute truth of our Lord. In regard to His rising, critics have had various theories to account for a missing body:

  1. Jesus was in a coma and came out of it
  2. The disciples stole the body
  3. The disciples were hypnotized and really didn't see Jesus after His death

Pastor Miles has one major challenge for all critics: GO FIND THE BODY!.

Jesus Keeps His Promises

When Jesus rose from the dead, all of His truths were unveiled. He walked around for 40 days and was seen by many people. This proved to many the validity of His words, His promises, and His entire ministry. By making Himself the ultimate sacrifice, He was able to conquer death and cause people to reevaluate.

First, the people in Bible times needed to reevaluate all Jesus said prior to His death and understand everything was valid. He kept his promise when He said he would die and rise on the third day, therefore all of the legitimacy of His words have been validated. Today, we need to review all the promises of the Bible and understand every one of them is true. Jesus made those same promises to those of His day and they still remain applicable today.

Secondly, we must reevaluate our lives and put our trust in Him and live by faith. You have to believe you are a sinner, the penalty of sin is death, you need a Savior, and that God has a plan and knows you intimately and wants to spend all eternity with you.

John 3:16 states For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

John 5:24 states, I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Believe to Believe

Remember, if Jesus can overcome death, He can overcome any situation you may be experiencing.

The disciples died for their belief in Jesus, whom they saw with their own eyes and gave eyewitness testimony. They shared a ministry and interacted with a risen Christ. Today, the body still has not been found, nor will it ever.

As you pray, you must believe Jesus is true. There is nothing you can do that is too big or too terrible that can fall outside of Christ's forgiveness. Jesus paid the penalty for all and conquered death. Remember, if Jesus can overcome death, He can overcome any situation you may be experiencing. Apart from Christ, everything else leads to death.

Our Mission in Christ

Matthew 28:19 says, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with your always, to the very end of the age.

Jesus was serious about His mission then and remains as passionate today. We are commanded to go speak to others of the risen Savior. We need to trust God enough to be courageous to share Christ with those around us. Pray for opportunities and ask God for the right words to penetrate the hearts of listeners. Our Mission: We need to tell people and righteously represent our Lord.

Final Thought: Jesus is alive so we have NOTHING to fear!
