Code Breakers - Part 4, Code of Ethics - Sex
Miles McPherson - June 11, 2006

Message Recap

This is the 4th message in a series exploring the Da Vinci Code, its claims, and how the Bible answers its accusations.

Miles opened his message by telling the church about the 4th of July Revolution crusade coming up. POD and Kirk Franklin will be performing and Miles will give the gospel message.

It would be great if the whole church was involved as we are expecting 30 thousand people to come and we will need 2000-3000 volunteers.

God Made Sex a Good Thing

There are some accusations against the church that are unfortunately true and not according to God's ideal plan. An example throughout church history is its inclination to put women down (which we'll look at next week). This week however we focus on how the church has demonized sex.

The Bible doesn't demonize sex they way the conspiracy claims. Instead, the Bible teaches that sex, the way God planned, is a gift and a compelling representation of our relationship with Him. However, like all things, sex has to be handled correctly or it can lead to serious and devastating consequences.

Remember, God wants us to be pure and above approach.

1. Sex represents our relationship with God. It is shameless oneness.

God designed a man and a woman compatible so they could become one person.

When God created Adam and Eve, they were naked in the garden and yet they had no shame. This was God's intention, no shame. They were open spiritually, mentally, and physically.

God decides what is shameful and God is unchanging. It is not our prerogative to determine what is shameful or not. Just because our culture changes and gets nastier by the minute, as Christians, we are called to another standard, a standard only intended to give us the most pleasure, free of painful consequences.

According to Hebrews 13:4, Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure.

Marriage is a good thing. God doesn't condemn it. He created it as a gift. If you don't believe it, read Song of Solomon.

2. It is a metaphor for salvation.

Christ is the groom and the church is the bride in the Bible. When you get saved, in a sense you are united to Christ, as a man and woman are united in marriage.

And just as Christ is the head of the church and laid down his life for her, so should a man love his wife and be ready to lay down his life for her.

3. It will be distorted by Satan.

The devil roams around like a lion looking for those he can devour.

The devil is going to try every different way to ruin you and destroy your relationship with God. Why is sex one of Satan's biggest areas of attack? Because it applies to everybody, and because he can destroy you in an instance.

The Bible says the devil roams around like a lion looking for who can he devour. Think about this next time you're watching tv, listening to music, reading a book, pretty much anywhere.

4. God knows how it should be used - and there are severe consequences for disobedience.

The Bible says a man can't scoop fire in his lap and not be burned. Don't mess with sex at all. The Bible says flee sexual temptation.

The Bible also says that sexual sin is different than other sins in that it is sin directly against the body. Its consequences are severe and affect so many different of your life. ie. spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, social, etc.

5. God can redeem us from sexual sin.

God is the great physician. He only wants what's best for us. Save the trouble and years of heartache and lasting consequences and make a decision today to honor God.

Miles mentioned that he got married in five days as soon as he and his wife decided to honor God. There's nothing preventing you from making an immediate decision. Share with someone you trust the commitment you make to be pure and holy, so they can encourage you and hold you to your promise.

Final Thoughts

Trust that God has something better.

When God says he loves us, it doesn't mean He unconditionally approves what we do. Rather He loves us in spite of what we do, and He wants to transform all of us into His image.

Code Breakers

This 6-part series explores the claims made in the Da Vinci Code and how the Bible answers its accusations, demonstrating the authenticity and accuracy of God’s Word. Many people think the church has demonized sex. This message looks at sex the way God planned and intended it for His children.
