Father's Day Everyday
Darren Carrington and Dru Teves - June 17, 2007

Message Recap

It's Youth Weekend and Father's Day! The SHM band led worship, we heard student testimonies and Pastors Dru and Darren shared a special Father's Day message on Father's Day Everyday.

We studied Father God's attributes, how He wants to use men to shape younger generates, and how God wants to grow families.

Pastor Ricky Page started out by telling everybody how easy it is to get involved with the Rock Youth Ministry. The most obvious way is to volunteer. But there is also a need for financial support, helping send Junior and Senior high students to summer camp.

The Rock also celebrate Pastor Miles' documentary, Master Meth, which won a Southwestern Emmy Award on Saturday night. What a praise! Our prayer is that God would use this to educate and deliver people from meth, and to bring them into a life-savings knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Dru's Message

God loves you and has a perfect plan for your life.

Pastor Dru started by explaining how when you first become a Dad, you feel this overwhelming sense of love. It's a way God demonstrates his own love for us. It's an unexplainable, unconditional love.

We see God in heaven through the lens of our earthly Dad. This is human nature. But God is bigger than that. We should try to see our heavenly Father the way the Bible describes a Dad.

Regardless of whatever kind of dad you had as a kid growing up, know that God wants you to know him intimately as Daddy.

God loves us so much. He knew us way before we even knew ourselves. Psalm 139:13 says, For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.

Ephesians 2:10 says, For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

God, as our heavenly Father, has blessings just waiting for us. What is keeping us from accepting those blessings?

God wants every day of our lives too, all of your talents, all of our abilities, and even our disabilities.

Luke 11:11-13 says, Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

God loves you and has a perfect plan for your life.

Transcendent is a God who is distant and sovereign and huge. Abba is a God who is close and intimate.

During the toughest times in our lives, we should cry out to God. He is our Daddy. Nobody cares for us more.

The thought for the week is "know that your heavenly Father wants to know you, grow you, and show His plan for your life… and don't forget his plan is perfect."

Pastor Darren's Message

Sometimes God calls us to do something that we never imagined about.

Pastor Darren said that God handcrafts us all totally different. Sometimes God calls us to do something that we never imagined about.

For instance, when Darren was growing up, he never imagined he'd be married. He thought he was gonna be a "player for life". But God had totally different plans and now he's happily married to a Godly woman and has three kids that he loves.

Pastor Darren's dad was never in his life. He didn't use that an excuse though.

One of things Pastor Darren said was how much he loves "yellow bundt cakes from Costco". He used an illustration to demonstrate God's plan for our life. You see, none of the ingredients of the cake really always taste good by themselves. But when you put them all together, they taste good.

There are some great examples of dads in the Bible… for instance, Jesus' dad, Joseph. Can you imagine being Joseph? What do you think Joseph's friends were saying when they found out that Mary was pregnant?

He called Joseph the ultimate Bible father. He put himself into a position to hear from God and he was obedient.

He didn't allow his lack of understanding to determine his obedience. Are you doing the same thing in your life.

He displayed self-control as a man to be married to Mary and remain a virgin until Jesus was born.

This Message

In celebration of Father’s day, we reflect upon God as Father. God wants us to know Him intimately, knowing that nobody cares for us as much as He does.
