POT3NTIAL - Part 2, Talent Potential
Miles McPherson - January 18, 2009

Message Recap

Time: Chronos - Duration of time. Kairos - Special moments in time. In heaven both are the same.

Talent: Your unique expression of power.

χάρισμα: charisma /khar·is·mah. "gift" . Charis - grace

μαρτυρία: marturia /mar·too·ree·ah - Witness - testimony

God has entrusted us with Time, Talents and Treasures. All three have heavenly potential or capacity that far exceeds what we see on earth. If we can establish goals for their use based on their heavenly potential, we will put ourselves in a position for God to do exceedingly more than we can ask or imagine in our lives.

Jesus says in Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." God has given you a unique Talent or power expression to:

1. Be personally set free from spiritual bondage. John 8:31-36

Once you ask Christ to be your Savior, you are free to say, "I love you" to those who hate you, free to admit your wrongdoing to others, free to have self control.

Pastor Miles shared the statistic that 65% of people released from prison return within three years. It is often the same for the church. Many times people have an encounter with God and become saved, yet they return to their old lives of sin rather than walking in their newfound freedom.

When you accept Christ, realize that the Holy Spirit gives you power to overcome the sinful habits in your life.

2. Liberate others from bondage. Revelation 19:11-14

Once you are spiritually free, God wants to use you to help someone else.

We are not part of the church simply to have fun and feel comfortable. We are part of an army battling with Jesus to save the people that the devil intends to destroy.

God did not give us talents and gifts in order to serve ourselves; they are meant for the benefit of others, specifically, to lead others to the kingdom of God. We will be happiest when the Spirit is flowing through us, utilizing our salvation with power for the purpose God intended. As a church, we cannot fulfill our God-ordained potential unless we use our gifts, each one fulfilling his/her work as part of the body of Christ.

3. Provide leadership over systems that protect spiritual liberation. Revelation 20:6

Not only does God want to use us to liberate others, He wants to use our talent/gifts to be part of a system that maintains that liberation.

God-given talents are not only to liberate yourself, but to help others be liberated and stay liberated.

God has given us the ability to work together. This is a warm-up for what will happen in heaven, when the dominion He gave to Adam and Eve will be fulfilled by the leadership of His church.

So what are you doing with your talent? God-given talents are not only to liberate yourself, but to help others be liberated and stay liberated. If each person uses his/her gifts as part of a team, maximizing them to their full heavenly potential, our church body can have unlimited impact on those around us.

DO Something! Identify your talents and take the gifts test online at Begin using your talents in one of the ministries at your home church.

This 5-part series shows us the grand resources we have in God. In this series we are challenged to utilize our resources to God's glory. God has given us all talents. Our talents are for His glory, to be used to help and serve others.
