Christine Caine - July 14, 2013

Message Recap

Today we were honored to receive a message from Christine Caine of Hillsong in Australia and founder of the A21 Campaign to end human trafficking.

In Christ, your future is always better than your past.

In Exodus 8, God sends a plague of frogs on Egypt because Pharoah has refused to let His captive people Israel go.  The frogs were everywhere – in the people’s paths, their beds, their homes, their food, and their water.  When Pharoah demands for Moses to pray to God to take away this horrible plague,

Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for those that remain in the Nile.”
“Tomorrow,” Pharoah said.

Exodus 8:9-10a

Pharoah is told that he can choose any time he wants for the frogs to be gone by committing to do as God asks.  At a word from Pharoah, Moses will pray for Egypt to be delivered from a disgusting plague of frogs that affects the whole land.   So what on earth would implore this Pharaoh to spend one more night with these frogs?

It is hard to understand that stubbornness, but in reality, we are no different.  We have been consumed by the frogs of envy, unforgiveness, bitterness, rage, and greed.   We want victory, freedom, healthier lifestyles, debt-free finances, and positive change for a positive future, but instead of deciding to embrace that change today, we take another bite of the doughnut and put off starting that new health regime until tomorrow.  We want to fulfill our wonderful destiny, but we say that we’ll just do it tomorrow.

Yet God says we only ever have today!  At some point, we must make a decision TODAY to deal with YESTERDAY so that we can have the promises of TOMORROW!

Yet God says we only ever have today!  At some point, we must make a decision TODAY to deal with YESTERDAY so that we can have the promises of TOMORROW!

Christine grew up in a poor area of Sydney with many disadvantages and trials surrounding her circumstances.  She was marginalized due to her Greek ethnicity, discouraged from accomplishment based on her culture and gender, raised in a disadvantaged socio-economic area, sexually abused throughout her entire youth, and then later as an adult, discovered that she was also adopted after an unwanted pregnancy, which turned her world upside down.

But no matter the discouraging facts that had happened in the past, at some point Christine had to decide to believe not in those facts, but in the truth of God’s Word.  She could have limited her whole life based on the black-and-white documents that stated that she was unwanted, unnamed, unloved, and unqualified for God’s work.  But instead, Christine chose to trust in a higher black-and-white truth of God’s Word, live in victory by the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, and work for the freedom of others.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

Although a lot may have happened in your past, your past does not need to define your future.  You are not a product of time, but of eternity positioned in time.  God has given you gifts and talents for the purpose of serving your generation.  Whatever broken fragments of your life are behind you, God can take them all to make a beautiful tapestry for your good and the good of your generation (Romans 8:28).   You can be delivered from your “frogs” for freedom’s sake and work for the freedom of others.

But in order to do that, you must realize that today, not tomorrow, is the day of salvation, freedom, and redemption.  Stop rationalizing, intellectualizing, and remaining a victim, and instead believe that the power of the blood of Jesus still sets people free today.  What God said is true and His Word prevails.  If you build your life on the Truth rather than the facts, you will fulfill the destiny that Jesus Christ has for you.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32

Do you truly know Jesus, the God of the Word of Truth?  Why settle for a religious obligation when you can know an authentic relationship with the living God? It doesn’t matter what your past holds, only a decision to embrace Christ and the future that He has for you TODAY!

This Message

In this powerful message, Christine Caine encourages us to step into the future and identity that God has for us by surrendering our hearts to Him, today.
