What if you really prayed, really tithed, really read your Bible, really served, and really did the things that God said would bring you blessing? What do you think would happen? God would be faithful, but we just don’t trust Him!
Pastor Miles issued a challenge for the new year to come: be better for God, wherever you are and whatever you do. He deserves the best we have. We as a church have plans and goals, but we can’t accomplish them together unless each one of us is willing to give God our personal best.
God deserves better from us in ever area of our lives.
It is easy for us to put God aside and instead choose what we want and do what we think is right. We must be honest with ourselves about our relationships with God. God deserves better from us in ever area of our lives.
In this series we have been examining the Lord’s prayer. Today we will pray through the whole Lord’s prayer using the acronym AWCIPA.
AWCIPA: A guide, not a formula, to focused and powerful prayer.
A: Admiration and Praise; or Appreciation with praise.
“Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.” Matthew 6:9
Give honor to the King of the Kingdom. Psalm 9:1
“Yahweh Elohim, I praise You for __________. I thank You for ______________.
The first thing Jesus told us to do when we pray, before we repent, ask, forgive, or anything else, is to acknowledge the Father in heaven and the holiness of His name.
If you find yourself not being able to thank God for many things, maybe you are giving yourself credit! Thank Him form your breath, your life, your shelter, your church, and all the blessings that come to mind.
When you wake up in the morning, it is a great discipline to think on the greatness of God before you even open your eyes and get out of bed. Rather than be consumed by the appointments, pressures, tasks, or responsibilities of the day, thank God and remember that you live under His grace, not under circumstances.
W: Ask for His Will to be done.
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it in heaven.” Matthew 6:10
Pray to know the Kingdom agenda (Matthew 26).
Everything good has a higher standard in heaven; love, health, compassion, relationships – they are all perfect in heaven. When we pray for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done, we are asking for His heavenly standards to come to reality in our lives now.
“Yeshua, may Thy Will be done in (my relationships, career, health...):”
If you are trying to fix your problems on your own, it brings stress. We can’t change situations, but if we allow God to be God, our burdens are relieved. Let go of that thing you want and those frustrating feelings you have. Pray for God’s will be done and for His help to see things His way and accept His ways. His will is perfect and his plans for our life are perfect.
C: Pray for Communion with Yahweh Elohim.
“Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11
Pray for Kingdom food. Psalm 51:10-11, Psalm 16:11
“Dear Yahweh Elohim, please bless me with Your presence and the spiritual (strength, wisdom, vision, faith) to faithfully obey You today.”
Pray for Him to feed your soul every day. Church is not designed to be your spiritual filling for the week. We need His spiritual food and presence each day, being guided by His presence all the time.
Are you saying each morning, “I need my coffee” or “I need my God”?
I: Intercede for other people.
“And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.”Matthew 6:12
Pray to have Kingdom of God relationships. Matthew 5:44
“Yahweh Elohim, please cleanse my heart of ___________. Yahweh Elohim, please cleanse my heart of bitterness, anger, jealousy toward ____________.” Lord, please draw________________ (friends and enemies) close to You.
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13a
Repentance has no defense. (“I’m sorry, BUT….”) Sin is not justified. If people sin against me, it doesn’t justify my own sin.
Is there someone in your life who needs your forgiveness? How about someone who needs to forgive you? If I only partially forgive people, or I gossip about them and remember their sin forevermore, then I expect that they will treat me the same.
The Bible says we can’t love God, whom we haven’t seen, if we can’t love our brother, whom we have seen.
P: Petition for power.
“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13b
Pray to exercise Kingdom of Yahweh Elohim power. Ephesians 6:10-13,1 Corinthians 10:13
“Lord, please grant me the power and authority to (overcome sin or temptation, heal someone, exercise courage and faith,__________).”
Is there habitual sin in your life? Do you want to be set free from critical thoughts, pornography, drugs, lying, gossip, low self esteem, etc.? Though we are sinners and we will fall, don’t let that be an excuse that excludes you from holiness, from letting go of the sin that ensnares us. God has power to release us from the spiritual bondage in our lives. Ask God to set you free!
A: Admiration and Praise; or Appreciate with praise.
Pray for the eternal glory of the King. Psalm 119:164
“Yahweh Elohim, I praise and give You glory for ____________.”
God is God forever. Your life is not going to go the way you want, but if you trust God, …we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
You will go through some hard times, but you will get home!
