Superman - Part 2, Healing and the Kingdom of God
Miles McPherson - July 12, 2015

Message Recap

Miles began today’s message by showing a model of the human spine and explaining that sometimes the spine can become out of alignment and pinch or put pressure on various nerves. These conditions can cause pain or problems in various extremities of the body that seemingly have nothing to do with the spine. The work of chiropractors is to bring the spine back into alignment, with the theory that if the spine becomes aligned, as it should be, the pressure will be alleviated from the nerves and health or relief will be restored.

Any time God aligns a part of your life with what He wants, or “fixes things,” that is a healing.

As a chiropractor works to align the spine, God works in your life to align that part of your life with Heaven, or with His Kingdom, or will. Any time God aligns a part of your life with what He wants, or “fixes things,” this is a healing. This can be physical, emotional, and relational. For example, when you are saved by faith in Christ, that is a healing in your relationship with God. When you have the wrong perspective of yourself, God can heal that so that you may see yourself as He sees you–one of His beloved children. Likewise, if something is wrong with your knee, God wants to heal it and restore it to its full intended function.

Sometimes Christians get upset when physical healing is mentioned. We can believe that Jesus is the Son of God, died on the cross, rose from the dead after three days, walked on the earth for forty days, ascended into Heaven, saves us from our sin and hears our prayers, but for some reason it is very difficult for us to believe that He can heal a knee. But although disease, injury, and illness may seem very complicated to man, God understands them fully and can heal them without any effort if He so chooses.

For the next four weeks of our Superman series, we will discuss the supernatural healing that God does in our lives. When God does a supernatural work in a life, that is a healing. We have no supernatural power on our own to perform a healing–that is all God’s. But He created us so that the Spirit of God can live in us, flow through us, and bring the Kingdom of God here on earth. Healing should be a normal, everyday thing for us!

In Matthew 6, Jesus instructs us how to pray:

"In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven."
Matthew 6:9-10

We are to pray and acknowledge that God is holy and ask for God’s Kingdom–His presence and His perfect will–to come to the earth.

1. Kingdom of God: A place or state that is in agreement with the perfect will, design, and standard of God.

When you have Christ, the Kingdom of God is in you. Will you let it flow out of you?

When you pray for God’s will to be done on earth, in your life, and in your relationships, you are praying that God would undo the damage brought forth by the devil and that Jesus would bring health and restoration, aligning your life with His perfect will in Heaven.

2. Supernatural Activity: Expressions of the Holy Spirit’s power fulfilling a Kingdom of God purpose.

Imagine that you have a broken relationship—that something has happened to cause a rift between you and another person. When the Spirit of God comes into your life and moves in your life, He brings about Kingdom alignment and heals your relationships. So when you pray for a relationship to be fixed or healed, you are actually asking for God’s will to be done in the relationship. Then amazing things can happen; the person you have the broken relationship with may surprisingly approach you to reconcile, you may find new courage or insight, pride can be supernaturally dispelled, and the devil’s lies may be uncovered by love and truth.

3. Healings: Expressions of the Holy Spirit’s power restoring something to a Kingdom of God standard.

The Spirit of God is God and is all-knowing and all-powerful. The Spirit never does anything contrary to the will of God. It lives in you and flows through you as God directs you to establish His Kingdom on earth.

Walking with God is not just about attending church. You are a citizen of Heaven above all else!  The Holy Spirit flows through you and He won’t do anything contrary to who He is; He wants to heal you and restore your life.

Physical healing is not the pinnacle of healing – ultimately, we want to be with God in Heaven, fully healed with a whole new body, so death does not necessarily represent a scenario where a person has not been healed.

4. Salvation: A healing event that establishes a Kingdom of God relationship with God. Romans 5:1-2

God wants to heal your relationship with Him. If you have never been saved by Christ, the Bible says you are God’s enemy. Maybe you accepted Him long ago, but perhaps you have pushed Him away and rejected Him. Perhaps you distrust Him, or have a lack faith in him.

If you would like your relationship restored with God, choose to follow Him now. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and ask Him to remove anything that lies between you and Him.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2

5. Physical Healing: An event that aligns our physical condition with the Kingdom of God. Mark 5:15

During the message today, we practiced praying for one another and asked God for physical healing. There is no formula to this, since Jesus modeled that He healed in many ways, but this is the model of how we asked for healing today:

Prayer for Healing
1. Describe what needs to be healed. Mark 9:21
2. Ask if you believe that God can heal. Mark 9:23
Say “Jehovah Rapha, ‘The Lord Who Heals,’ loves you.” Exodus 15:26
3. Ask if repentance is needed for anything like bitterness, a lack of faith, or resentment. Mark 9:24
4. Invite the Holy Spirit to heal and restore.
5. Ask the person for whom you prayed how he or she feels.

You can overcome the works of the devil in your life by the words of your testimony!  Today is the day to seek the healing that only the supernatural power of God can provide.

This 5-part series teaches us about the supernatural power God has granted His children to be a blessing to others. In Part 2, Pastor Miles defines healing as an expression of the Holy Spirit’s power fulfilling a Kingdom of God purpose and equips us to pray healing over ourselves and others.
