Kingdom Warrior - Part 1, The Warrior Mission
Miles McPherson - August 6, 2017

Message Recap

Throughout our lives, we enter different stages and have expectations at each stage for how we think the new stage will go. But have you ever considered what expectations God might have for your life as a believer? God wants to open our eyes so that we can understand how much He loves us and so that we can find strength in Him when we are weak. He expects that we will trust in His power and live abundantly through Him!

If we can trust Him and surrender to Him, then He will be able to do truly awesome things in and through us.

All God requires of us is our trust, and He calls to us, beckoning that we not be afraid. He never forces Himself upon us - He is gentle as a dove and only lands where He is invited to land. If we can trust Him and surrender to Him, then He will be able to do truly awesome things in and through us.

KINGDOM {basileia}: A realm subject to the king; the realm over which the king has authority. (City, country, region, realm)

WARRIOR {metanoeo}: A fierce, relentless, trained, disciplined fighter who fights on behalf of the kingdom.

God’s kingdom represents and pursues love, holiness, righteousness, peace, joy, freedom, eternal life, victory, and all the fruits of the Spirit, but Satan’s kingdom opposes everything about God’s kingdom. He has demonic forces and ranks, each with their own assignments to mess with you and to undo the kingdom of God by creating destruction, disease, pain, division, gossip, hatred, and death.

Jesus came to undo the destructive works of the devil by healing, uniting, forgiving, and freeing us. Then when He left, he did so with the command and expectation that we would continue His work - that we would be His Kingdom Warriors.

You are in a spiritual battle whether you realize it or not, and you need to adjust your expectations of the Christian life and gain the mind of a Kingdom Warrior. If you are simply caught in the battle and being tossed around or injured, it’s time to get in the game and fight. If you understand who you are in Christ and the authority and power to which you have access, then you will have eyes to see people as God does and to do the things that Jesus did here on earth.

Therefore, we are not called simply to be citizens, attenders, or observers of God’s kingdom, but rather warriors who declare the kingdom of God and actively destroy the works of the devil.

Then one was brought to [Jesus] who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”

Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”

But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. Matthew 12:22-29

Two groups are present in this passage: the multitudes, who are intrigued and amazed by Jesus, and the Pharisees, who try to disprove Jesus and claim that He is from Satan. What kind of heart to you want to have in your Christian life? Do you want to know more and desire to follow Jesus down the path wherever He leads, or are you looking for reasons to disbelieve, criticizing others, and trying to find loopholes that justify your own disobedience?

Jesus clearly states in this passage that Satan has a kingdom and that it is opposed to God’s; they cannot do the same work because the pursue different goals. He also instructs us to “bind the strong man,” or to put Satan in his place so that we can have victory over the areas over which he is holding dominion.

1. A Kingdom Warrior declares and demonstrates the kingdom of God. Matthew 10:7-8

In the game of football, the team huddles to call a play that the players have practiced, but a spectator doesn’t watch the game to see the huddles; s/he watches to see the plays!

Similarly, a Kingdom Warrior does not simply attend church - this is only our huddle time. In church, we meet with fellow believers, receive encouragement and vision, and get filled and recharged. But our mission doesn’t end inside these walls. We need to move beyond the huddle and execute the play!  When the play happens, the kingdom of God is displayed in and through our lives: we judge others less, gossip less, love more, speak life into others, entertain pure thoughts, and bring light and life wherever we go.

2. Kingdom Warriors defeat the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

Galatians 5:16-26 spells out very clearly the different results of the two opposing spiritual kingdoms. If you are aware of these differences and you fight to defeat the works of the devil in your life, the fruit will be evident; you will stop gossiping, criticizing, judging, and living in fear, anger, and despair. Instead, your heart will be filled with peace, just as Jesus promises when we dwell on things that are good, pure, lovely, and holy. Our anxiety dissipates, and we realize our sonship and royal priesthood in Christ.

Heavenly Father, as a Kingdom Warrior my desire is to demonstrate the kingdom of God with my life, destroying the works of the devil.

As a Kingdom Warrior, I must have a clear understanding of my identity in Christ. My identity will dictate the authority and power you have given me.

As a Kingdom Warrior, I cannot fulfill my mission without the Spirit of God moving through my life. Therefore, Holy Spirit, I give You permission to fill me with a powerful anointing. Fall upon me and equip me as a warrior for the battle.

As a Kingdom Warrior, I must have a renewed mind in order to take every thought captive, dwelling only on thoughts that are acceptable to You.

As a Kingdom Warrior, I will create an atmosphere of faith by speaking life to everyone I meet.

As a Kingdom Warrior, I will review every situation from Your perspective, focusing on what You are doing more than Satan is doing.

As a Kingdom Warrior, my hands must carry the powerful anointing of God that breaks the spiritual chains on people’s lives.

Pastor Miles’ challenge to you this week is to step up and become a Kingdom Warrior. By faith, step into Jesus’ expectation for your life. Fight against the works of the devil in your relationships, your thoughts, your worries, and your perceptions. Invite and expect more of God’s power and victory in your life!

Kingdom Warrior

This 9-part series examines scriptures that look into God’s Kingdom and our place within it. In Part 1, Pastor Miles calls us to be Kingdom Warriors by demonstrating God's kingdom while defeating the devil's work in our own kingdoms.
