All In - Part 1, The Lost Attachment
Miles McPherson - October 22, 2017

Message Recap

MAY I SPEAK LIFE OVER YOU?
Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  Mark 16:15

DECLARATION:
There are people in your life to whom God wants to speak through you. Be bold this week and invite them to church or tell them that Jesus loves them. As a Kingdom Warrior, I declare favor over your conversation with them.

WORSHIP: A Holy Spirit led response of respect to the heart of God.

After these things He went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he left all, rose up, and followed Him.
Then Levi gave Him a great feast in his own house. And there were a great number of tax collectors and others who sat down with them. And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying, “Why do You eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Luke 5:27-32

You are a sinner - we all are - and God has come to love you!

You are a sinner - we all are - and God has come to love you!

Our last series, Kingdom Warrior, was all about following the lead of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus began His ministry, the Holy Spirit came upon Him and led Him throughout His ministry. Jesus healed, trained, taught, and corrected the religious, all out of response to the Holy Spirit. The Rock Church has always been about saving souls and bringing the gospel to the street in response to the lead of the Holy Spirit. We do not exist simply to have church service, but to take God’s love out into the world.

Our community always has more need than we can ever meet, but we reach out anyway in response to the prompting of the Spirit, and God is making a difference. Over the next four weeks, we will highlight what has happened during the last two years of our All-In campaign and provide next steps for getting involved as we move forward. As we share new initiatives, we want you to pray about how God wants to use you in building His Kingdom in San Diego.

Last year 20,000 people were saved through the Rock’s ministries and church services. Another 500,000 people indicated online or via email that they have given their lives to the Lord. We held 4 Toys for Joy events, gave away $1 million in goods and resources, and relocated our North County campus in San Marcos.

The ALL-IN heart shares the gospel with non-believers as an act of worship.

Sharing the gospel with non-believers is an act of worship. We don’t do this because we feel guilty, but because we are responding to the Spirit of God speaking to us. Many times, this simply means being available! People get saved because of who Jesus is, not because you have all the answers.

Today our message focuses on the topic of outreach, and we heard from the leaders of four Rock outreach ministries, who shared a bit of their testimonies and the work of their ministries.

Sheri Brown - Compelled by Love
The Compelled by Love ministry reaches out to love and pray for people at porn conventions and gay pride events.
Sheri says that God rescued her out of the pit by His love 8 years ago, so now she feels compelled to take God’s love to those who need to be reminded that God loves them.
At a recent porn convention, she was able to pray for healing over a man with a shortened leg, and God healed him and allowed him to walk without a cane!

Tommy Hawthorne - Rock Recovery
This ministry walks people through recovery from substance abuse and serves as a resource for residential treatment.
Tommy says that God brought him through a past addiction and has used that experience to help others. He got saved here at the Rock in 2005, became a servant leader, and in following God’s lead through Rock Recovery, his own recovery has been strengthened and his faith has been strengthened as he’s poured into others.
One kid who began attending had abscesses on legs from needle infections. Today, he is 3 years clean and sober and has gone back to school to get counseling credentials and a seminary degree.

Marie Porcosine - Broken Chains
Broken Chains is a prison ministry that takes God’s love into Donovan State Prison, Barrio Logan microsite, and Las Colinas through Sunday services, Bible studies, and and intercessory prayer.
Prior to serving in Broken Chains, prison ministry was never a thought in her head or desire in her heart. She had always thought that people in prison deserve to be there, but when she began serving, God taught her that the incarcerated are His children, wonderfully made and created for good things. He has given her His heart for His children.
A while back during a study on anger in Ephesians 4, one of the inmates was crying the whole time. Afterward, she shared that she could see where her anger had gotten her and that she should have just walked away. Now this same person conducts Bible studies, shares her testimony, and comforts others.

Barry Whitfield - Youth Fishing
This community outreach ministry teaches kids about Jesus and having a life with Him by providing a positive atmosphere in fishing events.
Barry was brought up in the church and accepted Christ, but the world caught him up and he went wayward for a time, but God brought him home.
A while back, there were two youth who began attending the fishing events and at first they were very shy and had no fishing skills, but over time they began to improve, make connections with other kids, and grow in confidence, and now they are both serving in Rock Kids.

Pastor Miles’ challenge to you this week: what would God want you to do and why wouldn’t you do it? We are here learning about Jesus and how to respond to the Holy Spirit, so now it’s time to apply it! If you come to church every week but have never stepped out in ministry, this would be like getting a college degree but never applying for a job.

God has created you for kingdom purposes, so it’s time to step out of the boat onto the water! Make yourself available to God and give Him permission to use you to reach others. Then let Him take care of the rest. When you step out in faith, you will see God’s faithfulness.

God has something specifically for you to do, and there are many different opportunities to serve here at the Rock. Text the word OUTREACH to 52525 and learn of the opportunities we have that you may be able to meet.

All In

This 4-part series challenges us to have an ALL IN Heart that God can continually use to accomplish His work. In Part 1, Pastor Miles defines having an all-in heart for God, and interviews four Rock Ministry leaders who share how they serve our community.
