This Sunday, Pastor Miles was joined by four campus pastors, Micah, Jason, Greg, and Travis, for a special 4x7 message where each pastor shared a 7-minute sermon.
Pastor Micah - City Heights Campus
The night of the last summer, Judas takes off to betray Jesus and Jesus has a conversation with the 11 other disciples. He knows His assignment is coming to an end and this news devastates the disciples. But Jesus lets them know it’s going to be alright.
If you love me keep my commandments and I will pray the father and he shall give you another Helper, that he may abide with you forever. The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees nor knows him: but you know him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:15-17
The Holy Spirit lives in the inside of every born-again believer. And when Holy Spirit moves, He brings the good stuff.
3 things the Holy Springs brings:
Righteousness, peace, and joy
For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteous and peace and joy int he holy spirit Romans 14:17
His righteousness, not ours. We can’t measure up to God’s righteousness. We are all a “hot mess express”. Without Jesus, we are lost. But Jesus. His sacrifice gave us the opportunity to be righteous in God.
Peace. Nothing broken. Everything is whole. It doesn’t make sense, but you have it. It guards your heart and your mind.
Joy. The Bible says we have the capacity as believers to rejoice always. We have an unlimited access to God’s joy. The joy of the Lord should always be happening. We don’t want to be the believers walking around with a frown on our face.
A victorious life
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them because He who is in you is greater than he who is the world. 1 John 4:4
Not a storm-free life. A victorious life. Trials and tribulations will come. But Jesus. You are an overcomer. Victory and triumph live in you.
But if the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ for the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11
This word life that’s used here means physical life. He’s going to bring life that will invigorate you. He wants to eradicate darkness, but it’s not just for you. This power is for everyone around you. Holy Spirit on the inside wants to get out. He wants you to let him out. People need the love and power of God.
When the Holy Spirit moves in, He brings these 3 things. It doesn’t matter what life throws at you. It’s no match for the Holy Spirit. He’s unstoppable. The chain-breaker, way-maker. Undefeated, unshakeable. He lives in you. Let him out.
Pastor Jason - San Marcos Campus
Without the presence of God, we are without hope. So, how do we experience more of His presence?
When Jason was 6 years old he got hit by a car. He was throwing a tennis ball, it went down the driveway and he woke up in a hospital bed. His left foot got caught in between the tire and dragged him about 30 feet until the car stopped. Major reconstructive surgery took muscle from his back, skin from his hip, and put it back in his foot. His entire summer as a 6-year-old was in and out of the hospital. He shares that he’ll never forget when his grandfather stayed with him. He was his hero. That night, a young nurse was on shift when they wanted to change his IV. He grabbed Jason’s wrist, stuck the needle and missed. Tried again, and missed. By that point, he was getting upset, but his grandfather was there so he couldn’t show weakness. After a dozen times, he couldn’t bear it anymore, and he looked at his grandpa and said “it hurts” and his grandpa looked at that nurse and said, “if you get near him one more time I’m going to stick it in your neck.”
The nurse left and a minute later a new nurse comes in, sets the IV without pain or issue. It broke Jason’s grandpa’s heart to see him in pain, but it wasn’t until Jason looked up and said his name, that he acted on his behalf.
As much love as Jason’s grandpa had for him, it doesn’t even compare to the immeasurable wreck-less love God has for us. As much power as his grandpa had, it doesn’t come close to the power and authority God has. At times in our life, God’s waiting to act on our behalf because he wants to know who he is to you. Is he Jesus? The one who brings salvation? Simply say His name. Jesus. Something shifts in the atmosphere when we say His name.
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12
No matter what you’re going through in life, anxiety and depression have to go when you say the name of Jesus. Fear has gone in the name of Jesus. Sickness and diseases have to go in the name of Jesus.
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.Ephesians 2:9-11
If you can put a name to it, it’s subject to the name of Jesus. His name is above every name. He’s our prince of peace. He’s our mighty counselor. The rock on which we stand.
So the next time you find yourself on your back, tired, confused, the weight of the world crashing on you, everyone turning their backs on you, not sure how you’ll make it … you stop and you look up and you see His face and you declare with your mouth His name. Jesus. Be reminded that not only is He with you now, He always has been and always will be.
Pastor Greg - East County Campus
Presence in Hebrew means face. Pastor Greg gives you an acronym to anchor your spirit and heart.
F - Faithfully
I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord. Hosea 2:20
Jesus was faithful to God’s mission on His life. Jesus never reacted to the devil, He lived in response to the father.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:6
God came up with the answer before the Devil came up with the problem. Genesis 1. In the beginning God. He came way before the devil.
C - Christ
...and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. Colossians 2:10
Jesus didn’t die to make bad people good. He died to make dead people live. When you know Jesus died for you to live, you will walk in the spirit of Freedom.
E - Everyday
Seek the Lord and His strengths, seek His face evermore! Psalms 105:4
People come to church and want an experience. Experience is great. But encounter is transformative. You have to encounter Jesus every day.
Faithfully acknowledge Christ every day. When you faithfully acknowledge Christ every day, you bring in the presence of God. You are face to face with Him. Every day you can be face to face with Him. Your heart and mind become anchored in His face.
When you are in a situation where the enemy is trying to lure you to the wrong place, you faithfully acknowledge Christ every day. Anchor your spirit. Anchor your mind. God will take you to places you’ve never been.
Pastor Travis - San Ysidro Campus
Pastor Travis recalls 6 years ago when his wife walked down the aisle. He remembers the moment the doors opened, blinding him with the sun and her radiant beauty. Everyone stood at attention and in reverence. But everyone looked at him, wanting to see the impact of his bride’s presence on his life.
Travis goes on to share about the Impact of His presence.
Acts 4 takes place shortly after the resurrection. John and Peter are making their way into the temple. They see a crippled man looking for gold and silver, but they give him something better. 5000 people saw what happened and became the church right there.
The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others of the high priest’s family. They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:5-13
The impact of His presence affects the impact of the people.
Peter speaks and a man is healed in the name of Jesus. One message became one megachurch.
The impact of His presence affects the impact of the power.
By what power and what name? We know you can’t do this on your own. When God calls you to do something that’s beyond you, and the enemy whispers in your ear, we can stand and say get behind me Satan, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
The impact of the presence of God in your life affects the impact of the purpose for your life.
Three years before this took place these men had a job. They probably liked their job and Jesus said, quit because I’m going to change you and give you a new way of life. Everything about them changed.
In the presence of God everything changes. 2 Corinthians 5:17 therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!
Sometimes we say “everything changes”? I don’t know if I’m ready for that. What’s the one thing that means everything? That if the presence of God would fall on that one thing, it would change everything? Everyone has one thing. Lord take this one thing and we lift it up to you. We ask You to do what only You can do.
Today we heard a lot of great information about the presence of God. But we don’t want to go any further without giving people an opportunity to meet Jesus. If you haven’t been with Him, take the opportunity to know Him today.
