Minding Your Business is giving mental focus to the business of God in your life, each moment. You can come to church, have a good time, read the bible, pray, and have this great experience and then walk out the room and start cursing or go to the strip club. Why? Because you’re not minding God’s business. You can walk with and have an experience with the Prince of Peace and yet have turmoil in your heart. You can have this supernatural revelation from the Light of the World, yet you’re walking in darkness. Why? Because you’re not thinking on the things of God all the time. You can read your Bible, pray, worship, but then you don’t make the decisions in the moment that are about God’s business.
The goal of this month’s series is to renew our minds so we can be about the Father’s business.
In Matthew 16, Jesus had revealed to His disciples miracles, raised the dead, taught them; they saw Him beat down the Pharisees with His wisdom. And then He says, “I’m going to die. They’re going to arrest me, and beat me, and you’re going to deny me.” And Peter says, “No, no, no. That can’t happen.”
What you think about has probably more to do with your spirituality than anything else.
Look what Jesus says in Mattew 16:23, “But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
What you think about has probably more to do with your spirituality than anything else. Because the Holy Spirit can do all this work, but if you don’t make a decision to take it, it doesn’t work. A lot of you are in messed up situations not because of God, but because you chose not to obey Him. You couldn’t accept the things of God. They were too big for you.
In this series, we are going to talk about renewing your mind. Changing the way you think.
We are in a spiritual battle. Anxiety is an anticipated disaster. Hope is an anticipated desire. So when you wake up in the morning and the devil is trying to beat you down, he is trying to set the course of your day this way (negatively). He wants to get a jump on everything. You have to, in that moment, say, “NO!” It’s a decision.
If you’re going to renew your mind, you’re going to have to start thinking and reciting the positive things of God. Over and over again. It’s not just going to happen. It’s a decision you have to make. One of the ways to do that is through declarations.
I am made in the image of God.
God has given me a sound mind, the mind of Christ.
I commit to being mindful of the Father’s business in my life today.
I denounce selfish and toxic thinking today.
I will take my thoughts captive and think like Christ today.
As my mind is renewed, my “physical brain” will be transformed.
I choose to dwell on positive thoughts and only speak life today because all of God’s promises in my life are “yes.”
Compare the body/brain to the heart/soul and spirit. Your mind is separate from your brain. Compare how each of these interacts, compare the identity of each, and the salvation impact of each. Your spiritual condition has nothing to do with how your feel or what other people say. It is based on what the Bible says.
You might ask: why am I saved and I got to church but nothing changes? It’s because your mind has not been renewed enough to be about God’s business moment by moment where you are thinking about His word. You need to pull down strongholds and fight the battle in your mind.
You have about 60,000 thoughts a day, and ¾ of them are negative. That’s why your life is messed up. The Holy Spirit is perfect. Spiritually, you are a new creature in Christ; the old has gone the new has come. You may still be underweight, overweight, 6 feet tall, whatever, but spiritually, you are seated at the right hand of the Father
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” So why do I still lust? Why am I still prideful? Why am I still angry? That’s because our mind needs to be renewed. This is where we live.
When we receive Christ, we receive the mind of Christ. When you ask Christ to be your savior, you have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16 says, “For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” When Christ fills you with the Spirit of God, you have everything God has and is, living in you. He’s waiting for you to access Him.
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." You want to make a sound decision? Ask God; read the Bible.
Be mindful of the things of God. Insight into the Father’s business. What are you going to take from God and apply it to your life in your decisions? In the moment, you have to ask God what He wants you to do.
4 Things About the Mind:
The mind can stand outside of the body and evaluate thoughts.
2 Cor. 10:4. Strongholds are incorrect thinking patterns. There is a battle going on in your mind. You have to decide am I going to believe the stronghold and the lie or am I going to trust the knowledge of God that does not change? It is a decision in your mind.
Your mind can create a new brain.
Every time you have a thought, you have a new structure in your brain. Every thought either impacts you positively or negatively.
Choose life or death.
You can either do something destructive or something powerful to your life. It’s either going to bring life or death. Mind your business. What are you watching and listening to?
Your mind can be renewed.
Rom. 12:1-2. Use me for the glory of God. That’s a living sacrifice. Holy means set aside. You’ve got to give God your best. Your reasonable service. It is not reasonable to get your information and make decisions about your life from the television or talk radio or internet or social media. That’s not reasonable because what you’re looking at is not true. What is reasonable, is that you give your life and mind and allow Christ to renew your mind. Don’t think like the world; God renew my mind. God has given you opportunities but you reasoned about them according to the wisdom of the world.
