Cell Phones for Soldiers is not just a catchy phrase. The Rock Church's Military Ministry provided an opportunity this fall to bless those who stand in harm's way for us every day--and the Rock family answered the call!"
According to ministry leader Tessa Cruz, more than 350 cell phones, and 200 chargers and batteries, were donated by Rock worshipers during the Cell Phones for Soldiers phone drive. The Military Ministry partnered with a nonprofit organization, ReCellular, to recycle the donations.
The funds raised will be turned into prepaid calling cards sent directly to the ministry's adopted squadron: the Maritime Expeditionary Security Group One. These men and women who support our country's freedom on a daily basis were deployed for seven months to Iraq the first week of December. Active Duty Chaplain Paul Kim will personally be overseeing the distribution in Iraq.
In addition, the Rockpile offered 300 Bibles at a minimal price of a $2 donation, and the Rock family responded to this opportunity as well. The Bibles will be joining the calling cards for our adopted squadron. (Rock donors signed all the Bibles, too.)
Be watching for additional ways to show your gratitude to our military brothers and sisters. In February, the Military Ministry plans to send CD messages from Pastor Miles, care packages, books, supplies, and letters from local schools and churches. Plans also are in the works for a web page or a blog. This would be used to keep in touch with the squadron, alerting supporters to their needs and prayer requests.
There are many ways to get involved with the Rock Military Ministry. Check it out!
