Boulder Acts... the Drama Ministry

by Rock Church | October 29, 2004

The Drama Ministry is a perfect blend and expression of the Rock's Mission Statement to save, equip and send. Their ministry verseexemplifies this saying:

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God boldly. Acts 4:31

Beginnings

Four years ago Boulder Acts began as a ministry that would allow both theatrical giants and fledgling thespians to apply their art in the service of the Lord and the Rock Church. The ministry was started with a burning desire to paint a picture of the Gospel through acting, and through sharing the love and salvation of God with believers and nonbelievers alike.

Opportunities

Some of the opportunities they have had to share were during Rock services, highlighting Miles' inspired messages on Sunday, and ministering to our precious children in Sunday School. Their big break came during their explosive worldwide appearance on RockTV. They also performed for children and their parents at Toys for Joy as the families waited in line to hear the Gospel and receive gifts so generously given in love by members of the church.

Earlier this year they shared the stage with Pastor John Leeder and were blessed as they performed before the bikers at a Set Free rally. Monthly, the Drama Ministry performs a series of skits before the men and women at the San Diego Rescue Mission, where they have experienced the joy of seeing the lost come to Christ Jesus our Lord. They have even performed at weddings, and touched the hearts of those celebrating the joyous event.

Is This For You?

Monique says, "Yes! We are looking for a few good men, women and children who have a heart to reach out to people through acting from all levels of experience, from up and coming acting students to Shakespearean orators to aspiring beginners."

You can contact Monique Sanchez or Doug Krause at dramaministry@therocksandiego.org or show up on any Sunday at 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Backdoor Theater below Montezuma Hall at SDSU. A new meeting location will be announced as we move to the Ruffin Road Sanctuary.

What to Expect

Each week the meeting begins with prayer and moves into warm up activities, acting exercises and theater techniques. The time is also spent working on scripts for upcoming events and rehearsing for current projects. The first time visitor can expect to act in short plays or skits with a biblical message.

The Future

Boulder Acts plans to continue their relationship with the San Diego Rescue Mission with monthly performances and to minister to other areas of the Rock, perform for other Churches and parachurch organizations and eventually create video messages.

Goals/Dreams

The Drama Ministry's goal is to create an acting troupe that is ready to perform when and where God calls, and the needs are simple: "People!" They need more Christians who want to develop their gift of acting for the glory of God.

Eventually the ministry would love to have a full time Drama Director working on staff with the Rock, helping to develop plays, skits, short commercial messages for RockTV, and helping every ministry at the Rock with its drama needs. Their heart's desire is to see Boulder Acts use drama in Missions and Miles Ahead Crusades and have drama troupes go to other countries. Whatever God says they will say, whatever God says to do they will do and wherever God says to go they will go.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem (San Diego), and all Judea (California) and Samaria (USA), and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8

This is what Boulder Acts is all about, serving when and where God calls and the need arises...
