He Sings

Some mornings I wake up and immediately know that the day is not going to go well. It’s like this primal innate feeling that the universe is off and nothing I can do will turn out right. Have you ever had one of those days?

You wake up and even before you can muster up enough energy to put your feet on the floor. You feel overwhelmed, your joy is already gone and all you want to do is cover your head up and go back to sleep. Or perhaps you feel like, I did the other morning, when I woke up looking for a fight. I was ready to take on anyone or anything and it wouldn’t have been pretty. Or maybe you feel like you’ve fallen into a pit of trouble. You don’t know how to find your way out because you just woke up and you had no idea trouble was lurking before you fell asleep the night before. AND all of this even before you’ve had your first cup of coffee.

It is often on days like those when I feel the furthest from God. I sometimes spiral into a tailspin and begin to think I am being punished for not spending enough time with God. Now, I know, that is not true. God isn’t going to rake me over the coals because I didn’t spend time with Him that day. That feeling is my own guilt because I know I should have spent time with Him and I allowed the pressures of life to take over before I realized it.

As the day goes on I have marched from task to task, my mind is preoccupied with everything that I have to accomplish. It can really be overwhelming. On days that are so stressful I need to remember God is right there with me. He is taking delight in me even when I feel like I am failing. He is fighting on my behalf…even when I don’t feel worthy of it. And the most awesome thing of all is that God is “rejoicing over me with singing.”

There is a verse in Zephaniah that tells us that God rejoices over us with singing.

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. ~ Zephaniah 3:17

When you are having a tough day, remember that He is fighting our battles for us, He delights in us and He sings over us with rejoicing! When you feel discouraged or tired, try to imagine God delighting in you so much that He is singing over you. I don’t know about you, but that image turns my attitude around and helps me regain joy and peace.
