Cam and Lando Pasimio, founders of the Rock Climbing Ministry, dont immediately strike you as the climbing sort. But according to Cam, its all weve ever wanted to do. We love to test ourselves.

Standing inside Rock Solid Gym, gazing at high walls rife with various hand grips and foot holds, one believes that is very possible.

The ministry was created with the mission of presenting Gods Word to fellow outdoor enthusiasts by experiencing His majestic outdoor creations through indoor/outdoor rock climbing, mountaineering and other outdoor activities. Its having a grand reopening of sorts, hosting its first event after two years of inactivity.

Lando was injured, Cam said. And I was off starting a family. Now were back on track and want everyone to come out and see what the Rock Climbing Ministry is all about, he said.

We figured a Rock climbing ministry at the Rock was a pretty natural progression, Lando said.

The ministry has paired up with other baby rocks (Rock Church ministries) in the past including the single-parents ministry, as well as provided hands-on lessons to classes at Rock Academy and hopes to continue the partnerships in the future. The ministry, originally a branch of the sports ministry, eventually outgrew the umbrella and carved out a niche for itself in the Rock.

We figured a Rock climbing ministry at the Rock was a pretty natural progression, Lando said.

The Rock Climbing Ministrys event will be at 5 p.m., Saturday, April 4 at Vertical Hold in San Diego. It is open to all ages and skill levels. Come enjoy pizza, fellowship and worship. Cost is $12. Call 619-548-0926 or e-mail rockclimbingministry@therocksandiego.org for more information.
