Rock Hero: The Capuchinos - November 2009

by Rock Church | November 25, 2009

Sometimes salvation comes in small packages. In the case of the Capuchino family, the children brought their parents to God...

The family first visited the Rock on Christmas Eve in 2002. Miguel says he knew about God, but didn't have a relationship with Him.

When the Children's Ministry started a program where older children help the younger children on Sunday, the kids begged to help. Christian was 10 at the time and Victoria was almost 7, but God had already called them to serve.

Serving Others

God used Christian and Victoria to set an example for their parents.

Lucy and Miguel started looking for their place to serve. In 2006, the Security Ministry sparked Miguel's interest. Combining love and an understanding for parents' needs, Miguel started the Children's Security Ministry. Lucy began serving as a greeter at the 10 AM service.

Today, Lucy and Miguel help mentor young married couples. Married 19 years, they say turning their marriage over to the Lord has blessed them. Even though this has been a year of testing, they continue to trust the Lord.

Trusting During Difficult Times

In the spring, Lucy was diagnosed with cancer. In God's grace, she says she has learned so much through her illness.

The Rock family provided support during the most difficult time of her illness. The Cancer Care Ministry made meals and her small group also pitched in to help.

Lucy says the hardest part was allowing herself to be served.

Setting An Example

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

The family continues to grow in the Lord.

Victoria, now 13 and in the 8th grade performs in the dance group, Rock Steady. Dancing since she was 4 years old, she says dancing with Rock Steady combines her two favorite things, dancing and God. Rock Steady performs at other churches and throughout the community, which gives Victoria the opportunity to share her testimony with others.

Victoria's favorite verse is Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

Her big brother Christian is 16. He is also talented on stage and is a gifted graphic designer.

Christian was 10 when they first started in the Gemstones program, which helps preschoolers. He learned to set an example for younger children at an early age.

While he has served in several ministries since then, He believes if you pray about where the Lord wants you and are ready to take action when it's time, you will be blessed by serving. He found even if you have excuses, God will take them away.

The Capuchino family: teaching us all that no matter what age, you can do something and inspire others.

Congratulations Miguel, Lucy, Christian and Victoria Capuchino, Rock Heroes for November 2009.
