This week Pastor Miles returned to church from being sick last Sunday to deliver the message titled Satan's Number One Weapon. His prayer for the congregation is that God would focus our minds to receive the truth of the word.
When we get off track and allow Satan to interfere with our lives we allow for him to bring our focus from God to self. If we ask God to give us focus to bind the devil away from our hearts the Lord will be gracious in forgiving us. If we continue in sin then it becomes more difficult to ask for forgiveness and the consequences that we pay for our sins begin to grow at an alarming rate.
Humans flock to what the devil has to offer because it looks delicious and inviting. If we are not in our word then the devil can manipulate scripture to use it against our life with God. The best way to contest Satan is to memorize scripture. If we do not memorize scripture, than we can not quote it when Satan comes against us.
Satan is cunning and tricks us into sinning using temptation. When we begin to fall to temptation he then knows what can bring us down. The devil uses this knowledge and gains advantage by tending to use the same forms of trickery every time.
We know that we need to obey God when we are saved. We know that following the word is imperative to a successful Christian walk. When we sin we are making a conscious decision to take a step back from the truth that rests in the Lord and we are embarking on Satan's territory.
In Genesis 1-2 we learned that God created the heavens as he also created Adam and Eve. In Genesis 2:25 the bible says that they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surly die. Genesis 2:16-17
In Genesis 3:1, it says that the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.
Nothing is outside the realm of the devil's mind. He is wicked and he is an enemy of God. When we isolate ourselves from fellowship within the church we become a target for Satan's number one weapon of deception. Isolation becomes Satan's prime opportunity to speak to our hearts so that he can lead us astray from the Lord.
Satan's deception is a two-fold lie. The first is that sin has no consequence and the second is that Satan wants us to believe that we can take control of our life alike to God.
Don't cheat. The Bible says that the penalty of sin is death. Genesis 2:17 God does not want you to begin to decide right from wrong on your own. If God is telling you no then understand His reasoning is for an important purpose.
There is a spiritual battle being waged at the expense or gain of salvation. Sin might look good but as Christians we should use our discernment and choose the righteous path that God has laid out for us.
The problem is that the things that we cannot see do exist. On occasion we think that because we cannot see God, He cannot see us. Everything that we think comes out in words and nothing can be hidden.
The consequence of sin is death. You cannot cover up your sin with leaves. Genesis 3:7 When we sin our spiritual status in the kingdom dies, our relationship with God dies, and we become venerable to Satan's deception and trickery.
Through acceptance in Christ Jesus we can alter our future and choose life over death. Jesus came to die for us so that we might experience life in heaven for eternity. We may not fully comprehend consequence of not accepting Christ, but God is faithful and will not let you fall on your own if you are genuine in repentance.
