Tender Hearts in Oaxaca

by Global Outreach | September 8, 2015

Desi was leading a team of 4 of us out to one of the villages; we were blessed to have a local believer join us from the city of Oaxaca. Our mission was to go door-to-door, dispensing buckets full of everyday supplies, that most people in the village could not afford.

We had came to a house that seemed isolated from the others and was poorly taken care of. As we approached the house, 2 ill eighty-year-old women welcomed us in; we noticed right away the shrine and idols in their home. After receiving the bucket, we asked the 2 ladies if they had ever heard of Jesus Christ and what He had done for all of mankind on the cross.

"After they received the Gospel, Desi obeyed God by sharing the Ten Commandments...He shared that God is the only one, true, living God and that He would not share His glory with another."

Both shared with us, they have never heard of Jesus or the Gospel!

Right then and there, the local believer who had joined us from the city of Oaxaca, felt a sudden urge to share the truth of Jesus and present an opportunity for them to surrender their lives to God and receive to the Holy Spirit into their hearts. As she shared, the rest of us were praying for God to move and He did! They both accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and were freed of confusion. They didn’t know it was such an simple act of faith and invitation.

After they received the Gospel, Desi obeyed God by sharing the Ten Commandments with them in Exodus. He shared how God didn’t want anything to be held in higher regard in their lives than Himself. He shared that God is the only one, true, living God and that He would not share His glory with another.

The women felt led to take down their shrine and idols in obedience! Without hesitation, we followed their lead and helped them to clear out their entire home of idols. It was crazy, as we moved stuff, these spiders and bugs started crawling out from where the shrine and idols were located. It was quite the scene. After everything was tossed outside to the trash, Desi kicked, smashed, broke, and destroyed each one with the elderly women’s ok.

It was a most beautiful thing to experience these elderly women being set free and ushered into the Kingdom as 2 precious daughters of our Father in Heaven.
