Married Since: March 25, 2000
Areas of Focus: Interracial, Communication, Verbal abuse, Physical abuse, Anger, Violence, Transitioning careers
Major obstacles overcome in marriage: High school sweethearts.  Prior to marriage, we had many obstacles from physical abuse and verbal abuse, anger, lack of trust, cheating and interracial challenges.  As soon as we put God in the center, these obstacles were no longer a challenge for us.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: We are best friends and enjoy each other’s company.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Our marriage was in shambles. We placed God last instead of first in our marriage
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: Living a Godly marriage instead of a worldly marriage. Marriage is a covenant not a contract.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Bringing up children in a blended family, two strong willed personalities learning to live together.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: Biblical love and recognizing repentance is key to marriage. Prayer and community support.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Both overcame trust issues from previous relationships, blending multicultural backgrounds, and managing challenges of caregiving to a loved one, survived loss, multiple moves.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: Taking time to reconnect with one another and serve each other.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage:We have been through everything that is designed to destroy a marriage but through God's grace we are still together we are in it to win it.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: Our love for God and each other.

Areas of Focus: Communication, Anger, Law Enforcement, Unhealthy boundaries, Parents to young adults
Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Issues with unhealthy boundaries which occurred in 2008, and was the catalyst for Pat to seek professional Christian counsel from a faith based therapist, which led to him being saved & us being baptized shortly thereafter.  We like coaching other couples who just need to feel they’re not alone in their marital issues, and provide hope, tools, and resources.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: Date nights, daily devotionals read and discussed together, open communication, annual marriage getaways, out-loving each other daily without keeping score, 6 second kisses, coaching couples (both formally through our church, and informally with other couples whom we do life with)
Married Group: Tuesdays @ 7pm-8:30pm beginning Aug 8th thru Sept 5th.

Married Since:  December 13, 2009
Areas of Focus: Blended Family, Inter Racial, Communication, Second Marriage, Addiction, Finance, Military, Grief
Major obstacles overcome in marriage: We overcame obstacles that come with being married for the second time for both of us in our 30s. We're a bi-racial blended family. We were not able to have children of our own due to infertility. We’ve experienced the death of siblings from both sides, and career changes. We've experienced Victory in financial hardship as well as navigating with God as one through unforeseen circumstances that has tested the strength of our covenant. We are blessed to minister through our hardships the faithfulness of God through it all.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: Our individual and collaborating relationship with Jesus. Prayer. Open communication. Humility to ask for help if needed. Date night! And being intentional to believe the best in each other when situations or circumstances arise that are not easy to navigate through.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: We have been through infidelity, trust issues, anger & resentment.  With God's help and by making him our #1 priority, our marriage continues to get stronger every day.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Communication.  Like most, if not all couples, this was a huge obstacle at the beginning of our marriage.  It has taken time to be able to communicate and understand each other’s needs.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: God.  He has taught us communication skills and understanding for one another.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Poor communication
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: We pray together daily.  We lead a marriage group that helps others, but also helps us.
Married Group: Every other Wednesday 7-830pm ongoing (we don’t meet in the summer for group but we have fun gatherings)

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: After drug abuse, physical and verbal abuse, divorce, continual process of healing from infidelity. God has restored our marriage and made it better than before.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: God!  Being in Christian community. Praying and serving together.  Investing time together at any marriage enrichments whether it’s a weekend getaway or local class.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Going separate directions in the first 10 years of our marriage and not working together. This especially had an impact on how we interacted with one another and how we raised our children when they were young.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?:  Spending time together, serving together, and a focus on common goals.  Having patience, forgiveness and a mindset of "Don't sweat the small stuff".

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: Getting a divorce and then being able to restore our marriage after the divorce. Learning healthy communication. Learning how to understand your mate.
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: What keeps our marriage alive and thriving is our personal relationships with The Lord and our sharing His love with each other. We have benefitted from getting marriage counseling and professional assistance. The concepts, principles, and tools that we have learned are what helps us flourish, so we love helping others to grow in their relationships as well.

Major obstacles overcome in marriage: The experience of being a blended family, finances and raising grandchildren. Conflict resolution.  We have learned to fight fair and keep a short account of wrongs
What keeps your marriage alive and thriving?: Spending daily time with God, keeping God at the center of our marriage, regular date nights and fluid communication.
Marriage Group:   Wednesdays, from 6:30pm - 8:00pm.
